Description: Railen asks Sorsha to marry him ... right now.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 13, day 18 of Turn 4
Sorsha stood, the candidate class being just dismissed, and stretched her arms over her head. She looked over to Railen who had sat next to her and on his other side, his sister Lenlee, and smiled at them both. "Lenlee, are you going to eat with us, or with Pashi?" The young girl had become fast friends with one of the weyrbrats, and Sorsha rarely saw the girl outside of classes anymore.
"Pashi." Came Lenlee's response - Railen wasn't surprised by it. "But I'll see you later." With hardly a look back at her brother or his Weyrmate, Lenlee was swept away by her friend.
"Well, at least she's settling in here well enough." Railen couldn't hide the amusement from his voice.
"Do you think your father will let her stay if she doesn't Impress?" Sorsha linked her arms with Railen's as she watched the girl disappear.
"Probably not." Railen slowed his step so that his stride matched his betrothed's, "But it wouldn't surprise me if he allowed her to return for another hatching."
Sorsha looked up at Railen and gave a small smile. "They'd better get here soon or they'll miss _this_ hatching." It would be any time now.
Railen nodded, then stopped as the mention of their families seemed to bring something to mind. He glanced back and pulled Sorsha to the side. "Let's do it. Now. Before they get here, before the hatching. Let's make it official so no one can say anything."
She looked at him a moment, shock prevalent on her face, "You mean get married? But we said after the Hatching..."
"I know. I know." Railen leaned against the wall outside of the barracks, running a hand through his hair. "It's just...why wait? We're as much as Weyrmated already. When they get here, your father is going to find out that we're living together and he won't like that." Nor would his parents, but he could deal with his own parents easily enough. "And...and if you impress, we won't be married, but I want to be able to say that we were married before and...to be able to get married at all. Once you impress, you can't get married." He was stumbling over his words, not expressing himself properly and it was frustrating.
Sorsha got up on her toes and grabbed his neck, planting a wet kiss on his lips as she grinned. "You're adorable you know? I love you and I will gladly marry you, even if it only lasts a day."
Well at least she hadn't protested. Railen didn't think she would. Well, at least, he had hoped she wouldn't. His face relaxed into a smile. "Good. So...how about right now?"
"Are you being serious or just playing?" It wasn't that she was against marrying Railen, she'd just always imagined it on her father's ship. She knew it shouldn't matter, especially since if either one of them Impressed then they'd never get to be married at all, but if they waited, maybe her father would arrive in time.
"I'm quite serious. I want to be married, officially, so that those who aren't of the Weyr can't say anything, so that we can't be stopped should you impress." The young man insisted as he stepped closer to his love. "Do you not want to? I won't force you if you don't."
She didn't pause again. "I want to, right now." Being _married_ to Railen was more important to her than _where_ she was married to Railen. She took his hands in hers and gave them a squeeze as the leaned her head against his chest. "I want to be your wife forever."
"You will be." Railen assured her, slipping his arm around her as they walked. "Even if you impress, even if others say it's null and void, it doesn't take away what I feel in my heart."
Sorsha grinned, "Nor in mine. I guess we'd better find a harper then?"
"I don't think that's going to be much of a problem." Railen returned her grin with one of her own. "Right now?"
"Right now." She assured him then realized she'd forgotten they _did_ have family here. "Let's go find Lenlee first, and J'far. Your cousin can stand as your witness, and Lenlee can stand as mine."
"I think that's a great idea." They were getting married, officially. To say Railen was happy would be the underestimation of the turn. "Let's go while we still had the chance." Marriage or not, they still had duties to attend to. Of course, they could certainly celebrate that evening.
