"We're married!" Sorsha blurted out after greeting everyone with hugs at the end of the dock. She and Railen had received a message that his family and her father had arrived via ship and they had raced down to meet them.

"What?" Serend stopped dead in his tracks and stared at his son. He thought he had heard Sorsha say they were married, but surely his ears were deceiving him.

Sorsha looked at the faces of her father, Serend, and Karai and realized they weren't pleased with the news. "We... We didn't know if you'd make it here before the hatching, and we can't get married if we Impress..."

"Oh." The holder glanced over at his wife and cleared his throat. "Well, congratulations! So...when did you get married?"

"Just a couple of days ago." Railen explained as he took Sorsha's hand and squeezed it gently. "We wanted to make sure we got married before the hatching."

"And Railen's a Candidate now too." Sorsha said, looking for a way to divert the subject in another direction. If they thought about it too much the days they've been living together at the Weyr and the time they've been married wouldn't add up and she didn't want there to be any ill feelings between them.

Karai's attention had been diverted by Raise running to the edge of the dock to look down at the fish but she turned back quickly to her son at Sorsha's declaration. "Railen? What does she mean you're a candidate? You're heir!"

"It means what it means." Railen stepped forward to sweep his mother into a hug and plant a kiss upon her head. "I've decided to stand and see what happens." The shock on his father's face made Railen wince.

Balisor stepped forward and looked between his daughter and his new son in law. "I say, I didn't quite expect this." He looked over to Serend and cleared his throat. "Why don't we all go somewhere a bit more comfortable and then we can talk."

Karai did her best to keep her tears at bay as her son released her. So much information so fast was unnerving her and she needed a chance to think it all through. "Yes, a place to freshen up would be nice."

"We secured guest quarters for you already." Sorsha was now glad she'd thought of it. She hadn't wanted to upset everyone, things just happened so quickly... "Railen, if you show them, I could find Lenlee?"

"Certainly." The young man agreed readily. "Please, come with me and we'll get you all settled.

"Yes." Serend stated softly. He couldn't help but notice his wife's expression and wondered if he would have a hard time trying to calm her. Hopefully the walk to her quarters would help to smooth her irritation.

Balisor clapped Railen fondly on the back. "Lead on, son."
