"It's amazing." Ri'len finally broke the silence that had come to rest between them. It hadn't been an awkward silence, but one shared in love as they basked in the joy that filled them. They had impressed, they had lifemates. Ri'len was not only fulfilled by his love for Sorsha but also by the love that he now received from the amazing bronze that had chosen him.
A big boy as well! Biggest of the clutch, if Ri'len had looked right. His colour was rich with the slightest hint of a reddish tone. The colour deepened over his wings, casting a brilliant shadow over the rest of him. Monilath dozed contentedly. Ri'len found himself trying to get used to his new name more than anything else. Monilath felt so right.
"Yes, it is." Sorsha agreed as she looked at her sleeping Roseth. The little green was curled up, sleeping soundly, after eating until Sorsha swore she could see the individual chunks of meat pushing against her full belly.
"It's unexpected." Ri'len admitted with a smile. "But wonderful. Though I feel sorry for Lenlee." She had been so eager, looking forward to possibly impressing. She had tried to be happy for them, but he could see the disappointment she held.
Sorsha gave a weak smile, "I didn't actually think you'd Impress. But I guess it is in your blood." she added, remembering J'far his second cousin. "And a bronze. You're going to be very important now."
"Important?" Ri'len didn't think of himself that way. "You're just as important." He stated emphatically.
"You're going to be more important." She reminded him of what they'd been told in candidate class. "You're going to lead wings someday, maybe even fly a gold and become Weyrleader. You'd be good at it too, you've had all the training of a holder."
"Maybe." Ri'len smiled and gently chucked Sorsha beneath her chin. "But you'll always be the most important person to me."
She smiled, glad of the assurance. She might be a green rider now, but there were hundreds of her, and as a bronze rider, he was going to have the pick of almost anyone. "I guess we're not married anymore are we?"
"Yes we are." Ri'len insisted, taking both of her hands in his. "Maybe not by law, but in my heart you are my wife. I fully plan on being with you for as long as I live."
Sorsha looked down and squeezed his hands, "And this is all we're going to be able to do for awhile I guess. It'll be hard not to kiss you, you're a very kissable sort you know?"
"You even more so." He wanted to kiss her right then and there, but Ri'len held off. Weyrling training wouldn't last forever and he wasn't about to do anything that might endanger his lifemate. "I'll make up for it, I promise."
"You know, they said the dragonets would sleep so heavy we wouldn't be able to wake them right now. I bet a little kiss wouldn't hurt." Sorsha suggested. Surely an innocent kiss wouldn't hurt anything... just this once.
"Just this once." Ri'len agreed. He leaned forward and let his lips meet hers. He did keep it small, gentle, an innocent kiss. Anything more wouldn't make him feel comfortable - not until Monilath was ready. for the moment, it would have to do.
Sorsha smiled as their lips parted, "Perfect. I'll keep the memory to tide me over until we can be together again."
"At least we're not completely apart." They would see each other every day, in classes, during drills. They would only have to be apart at night. That would be difficult, yes, but Ri'len knew it wouldn't be forever. "We should probably get to the hatching feast."
She nodded and took ahold of his hand again as they walked, both taking a glance back and admiring their sleeping dragonets. Holding hands was fine, for now. She'd just have to have some patience.
