"Father!" Sorsha cried as she hurried over to where both her families were standing. "Did you see us? See us Impress?"
"Yes." Balisor smiled broadly at his daughter and embraced her when she drew close. "Yes I did. I'm proud of you." He then looked to Railen and smiled. "And of you."
Serend stood quietly, pipe in his mouth though it remained unlit for the moment. He moved forward to give a clap on the back to his son, a silent gesture of his approval. Ri'len looked to his mother, uncertain about her reaction regarding the impression.
"It makes sense a bronze chose you." Karai couldn't say that she was _happy_ that her son and the hold's heir was now a dragonrider, but she was _proud_ of him. "You'll make a fine rider, just stay safe as best you can."
"It will be fine, Mama." Ri'len embraced his mother and held her tightly for a long moment. He knew that they were worried about him. Thread filled every Pernese's life with horror and the dragonriders were the only ones who could truly face it. Of course, he knew there was more to it than that. He was supposed to take over the hold. Now, who would? He had cousins, certainly, but there was also the fact they had two daughters. They would eventually marry. Their husbands could inherit, or grandchildren.
Sorsha looked around but didn't see Lenlee anywhere with them, "Have you seen Lenlee?"
"She was talking to one of her friends, a girl who Impressed a green..." Karai looked around but couldn't see her either. "I'm sure she'll be back soon."
"Is she okay?" She hadn't seen her after the hatching though she knew she hadn't Impressed.
"She's doing all right." Serend stated as he took his pipe from his mouth. "Disappointed, of course, but doing all right."
"Lenlee's a trooper." Ri'len commented as he turned his eyes to the crowd in an effort to look for her.
Sorsha didn't want to push the issue, but after feeling the love and adoration she felt from and for Roseth, she didn't want Serend and Karai to deny Lenlee the chance to Stand again. "There'll be another Hatching. She can Stand again. I bet with Ri'len Impressing her chances will be really good if she keeps trying."
Serend's lips turned down at the thought of that. He hadn't planned on Lenlee standing more than once and he wasn't sure he liked the idea of her trying again. It would, however, be something he would think long and hard about.
Ri'len gave Sorsha a warning nudge. He wished she hadn't mentioned that, but he did hope his father allowed Lenlee to stand again. Perhaps he could try and convince him.
Sorsha decided to change the subject, no one wanted to talk about it and she didn't want a damper to be put on the night. "Father, how long are you staying? I'd be so nice to get to catch up, and you've got to meet Roseth."
"I'll be able to stay a couple of days." Balisor assured his daughter, his hand rubbing her back. "And I would love to meet Roseth."
"We should probably eat." Ri'len stated in an effort to move things along. Food would make outlooks much more cheery, he was certain. "I'll go find Lenlee."
"Raise is with her too." Karai reminded him, the girl had missed her sister so and had refused to leave her side.
Sorsha smiled, she would miss little Raise when they were gone, but maybe when the girl was older she could come and Stand too. "This way, there seems to be empty tables over there."
"Then why don't we sit over there?" Balisor watched as Ri'len disappeared into the crowd, then guided the rest of the group to the tables Sorsha had indicated. He hoped that the meal would calm things, make people look on the bright side. He knew that Serend and Karai had mixed feelings over the hatching. Well, to him, despite everything, he was happy for Sorsha. He just hoped the rest of them could be happy for them as well.
