"You didn't tell me you were the new gold rider." It wasn't really an accusation, but he'd been a bit surprised when he'd seen her as they fed their dragonets.

"It never came up." Meledei looked at her bloodied hands, glad that Elleth's appetite had _finally_ been satiated. She could have sworn she carved up an entire bovine for that dragon. "But yes, I'm the new goldrider." She looked back up to F'gol and smile. "Just like you're one of the new blueriders."

F'gol rolled his eyes, "You know it's not the same thing. But if you don't want to put on airs about it all the better."

"Am I supposed to?" Meledei made her way to the wash basin While she had no problem with cutting up meat like some of the others did, she certainly didn't want to stay bloodied. Of course, she still had to wash and oil he dragon. "I can put on airs if you really want me to."

He followed her, not sure where to go or what to do. Everyone here seemed to have a better idea than him even though they were all on their first day. "Nice is better if you please."

"Then I'll do my best to be nice." Meledei took up some sweetsand and began to scrub her hands and arms vigorously. "How are you getting along?" Granted, the hatching had just happened the day prior and their first day had just started, but the boy still looked lost.

F'gol shrugged as he placed his hands in the basin to wash as well. He'd never had to chop meat like that before and his arms were already dead tired. "Okay I guess. I feel better now that Tealth is awake. It's hard to feel anything but okay when you've got someone telling you you're the most wonderful person in the world." he added with a grin.

"I know exactly what you mean." No matter what happened, what people thought, the most important person was her dragon and Meledei knew Elleth would never turn away from her. She would always be loved by the gold, no matter what mistakes she made. "It's a grand thing." Once he was freshened up, she led the boy to where the buckets were ready and waiting so they could wash and oil their lifemates. "Ready to get really wet? And oily?"

He saw a older rider already in the water with a waiting blue dragon and realized that their first class was going to be in how to bathe the dragonets. He supposed that everything was going to be a class for awhile, maybe it wouldn't be that much different than at the Hall. "Guess so."

}:I want to play in the water but Ralioth says I have to hold still for you.:{ Tealth explained. }:I will hold more still than any of the others.:{

The feeling of having Tealth in his head was still odd, but it was stranger to try and talk back into his head. **You are the _best_ dragon**.

Meledei and Elleth stayed close to Figol and Tealth. She felt a bit protective of the boy, sorry that he seemed so lost and wanted to help him. She had heard the whispers of some of the other candidates, some who though it wasn't fair that he had snuck onto the sands and impressed. He shouldn't have impressed at all and had taken away someone else's dragon. Meledei, however, knew better and the whispers and gossip simply made her even more protective of him.

Most weyrlings paid close attention they were run through how to bathe their dragonets, how to oil them, how to check for spots. Meledei knew all this - her father had taught her as she helped him with his dragon. Instead, she focused on not only properly bathing and oiling her dragon, but helping anyone, F'gol included, who needed it.

"Whew" Figol breathed as he wiped sweat off his brow with the back of his arm and looked to see if he could spot any places he might have missed to oil. "And we need to do this every day?"

"For the first few months, yes." Meledei nodded as she double checked her own lifemate. One she was satisfied that she hadn't missed any spots, she checked Tealth for F'gol. It was easy to miss if you weren't used to such things. She was glad her father had insisted she learn even before she had become a candidate - it was certainly paying off! "Hey, you did a good job. You just need one more slather right here and you'll be good to go."

He almost objected until Tealth spoke up, }:Yes, that spot right there.:{
