"I see you've moved around a lot." N'vanik commented as he glanced over the transfer hides.
"Yes, sir," the greenrider said, and crossed her legs. She was in her forties, attractive looking and full figured. And she knew how to position herself to show off those figures.
"Says here you've got a bit of an authority problem."
Varija snorted. "There wouldn't be any problem if they only left me alone and stopped meddling with my life," she said with some heat. "Pompous asses all of them," she muttered under her breath. Same time she was trying to asses him. Young, not bad looking. She gave him a flirty smile.
"I don't meddle with my wingriders," N'vanik said. He tilted his head. "Well, not the kind of meddling you're complaining about, anyway." A little smile played at his lips.
"Aw, but I would love to meddle with you a little," Varija said with an adorable pout.
"Impress me with your flying, and we'll see."
"I fly well," Varija said. Her problems were on the ground, not in the air. She would never do anything to endanger herself, her lifemate or her wing mates. Deliberately, that is.
"Good," he said. "Can't wait to see you in action."
"And what kind of action you would prefer to see me in?" Varija asked with a purring voice, leaning forward and batting the eyelashes. She had dark, almond-shaped eyes.
"Flying first." N'vanik leaned a little closer. "Anything else second." His tone implied he had a few ideas.
"I like your style," Varija said. At least he wasn't turning her down right away.
He chuckled. "I haven't heard that very often." Usually, it was the opposite.
"I got a feeling we will be getting along just fine," Varija said. At least for now. It usually started well and then turned ugly later. But who knew, maybe N'vanik would prove to be different than her previous weyrleaders.
"I hope so. I've got enough trouble to deal with." His tone was light. "Whatever problems you might have had before, this is a new start. Pay attention, fly well, don't get into too much trouble, and you'll do fine here."
It made Varija felt good. It lit a warm glow inside her and filled her with confidence, it was rather new feeling for her. He wasn't letting her past record to prejudice him against her, he was actually giving her a change to prove herself. She wowed to take a good use of it. "Thank you, sir," her voice was soft, and for a moment the timid, good hearted hold-girl she used to be looked out from her eyes.
"You're welcome, wingrider." He wondered at the change in her expression. Was the flirting just an act? Or was she surprised that he offered her a clean slate? Maybe it was a little of both.
Varija nodded. "Anything else?"
The Weyrleader grabbed a few hides and handed them to her. "Formations. Study up, and I'll see you at drills tomorrow."
"No probs," Varija said lazily and took the hides. She glanced them quickly. It looked almost same than the one in Ista(tm), so she shouldn't have difficulties with it.
