A Girl Watcher

Characters: F'gol, Meledei
Description: Meledei shows F'gol the sketch.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 2, day 5 of Turn 5

Meledei stared at the sketch, wishing she knew more about its origins. What was the artist like? Was the artist and her admirer one in the same? It was beginning to look like it, but truly it was impossible to tell. Meledei was both flattered and worried by the attention, a bit of both emotions showing in the confused expression that regarded the drawing as she held it.

"Whatcha got?" F'gol asked as he plopped down on the couch next to her. He was exhausted, but he had enough energy left to snoop.

Meledei turned the canvas around so F'gol could see the picture of her and Elleth, the other smaller ones encricling the larger. "My secret admirer strikes again."

F'gol grunted and looked away from the drawings, opting instead of play with a thread unraveling from his sleeve. "Can't we officially call him your secret stalker by now?"

Meledei sighed and set down the sketch. She was beginning to think F'gol was right, but she hated to admit it. "I don't know what to think anymore."

"That he's a coward." he suggested helpfully.

"I'm beginning to get...scared." Meledei admitted softly.

He looked up, surprise and concern flickering on his face. He hadn't meant anything by his taunts, it was only to annoy her. "Really? I thought you liked all the surprise stuff."

Meledei picked up the sketch and held it out for F'gol to take. "Look. Look at what surrounds the innermost picture. Look at what I'm doing." She pointed to each one. "I remember doing these specific things. I remember this porcine and the fight it took to get him back into his stall. I remember these canines. I remember all these things."

F'gol took the picture and studies the images more closely, as he did, he realized they were things that happened _before_ the Impression. "He must have liked you for quite a while. One thing to cheer you up, he's not doing it because of Elleth."

"That's not the issue." Meledei sighed and rubbed her eyes. "The issue is...he's taken note of these things. I mean, while I remember most of this stuff, they weren't things that I thought would particularly stand out. Mostly they were routine days. How long has this guy been watching me? _Why_ has he been watching me?"

He reached out and took her hand, giving it a comforting squeeze. "Hey, don't worry about it too much okay. He's probably just a kid with a crush. It's not like he'd try and hurt you or anything." At least he hoped not. He silently made plans to stick close to the girl over the next few days, and especially the next restday just in case.

"Yeah, you're probably right." Meledei smiled and squeezed F'gol's hand back. "I guess it just seems odd to me, to have that kind of...obsession?" Well, maybe not over a dragon, especially one's own dragon, but over another person? To that point?

F'gol agreed. He could see being obsessed over a piece of music, but a person? "Maybe you should tell L'pin or G'len about the presents though. Just in case."

"Maybe you're right." And maybe F'gol had been right in the beginning. "Maybe I can find out who it is."

"Until then..." F'gol took the sheet and stuck it behind his back. "Out of sight, out of mind."

"Yeah. Yeah, out of sight, out of mind." But, Meledei thought, for how long?
