Not Difficult

Writers: Jane, Kaysea
Date Posted: 1st April 2009

Characters: Causton, Teene
Description: Teene reminds Causton why he should take a break from work.
Location: Vintner Hall
Date: month 2, day 8 of Turn 5

"I'm glad you're feeling better, Master Causton," Teene said in a
teasing tone as she paused in the doorway of the Hallmaster's office.
"Because with one less to look after your lovely wife might spend a
little time resting."

"Geni? Is she all right?" he pushed himself up from the table, concern
marring his face.

"Just worn out dealing with a difficult patient," the young woman said.
"I'm sure she'll come right when she knows that her 'patient' is taking
her advice and getting back to work slowly. Not overdoing it, I think
she said to him."

"I'm not overdoing anything. No one will let me," he humphed, a sigh of
relief not far behind when he realised Geni was all right. "And I was
_not_ difficult," he protested. "I was a model patient."

"Apparently you were delirious, too, if you believe that," she said with
a regrettable lack of respect for the Hallmaster. "But we _are_ all glad
you're better."

"Hmmm... well, what are you doing down here if I ran Geni so ragged
while I was ill?" he asked, a little miffed that she didn't show him
more sympathy for the simple cold that had turned in to a bad chest
infection.

"We're swapping jobs for a while," Teene said, her eyes twinkling as she
guessed at the reason for his gruffness. "She's spending time with the
children and I'm making sure you're all right."

"Oh...okay. That sounds fair, I guess. But surely the children will be
more work for her, than I was?"

Teene laughed. "Do you really want that answered?"

"What!? Surely you don't mean..." his voice trailed off, "I couldn't
have been... could I?" doubt began to form in his mind, and he looked
back over the last two months, he had depended on Geni a lot - and she
had been with him more often than not. "I should do something nice for
her, shouldn't I?" he asked, looking up at Teene sheepishly.

"Especially since every time she told you to do something - for your own
good - you disobeyed her. Imagine if it had been the children doing
that?" She nodded with a wide smile. "You think up something really nice
to do for her and I'll make sure the children are all taken care of."

"Thanks Teene. I didn't realise just how much work I've been for her,
but you're right, if it had been one of the children, I would have
stepped in a long time ago and given her a break," he nodded, sagely.
"I'll organise something special. It's almost the anniversary of our
marriage."

"That would certainly be a nice day to do something," Teene agreed.
"Now, since I'm supposed to be here making sure you don't overdo
anything ... what about going for a walk. Or a game? I'm getting pretty
good at dragonpoker."

"A walk? The game seems a better option. I seem to remember you came
close to beating me in the last game..." his eyebrow rose in amusement
at the look on her face. "Okay, okay, you won....My turn to win - this
time."

"Set up the board, then, and I'll show you that _that_ win was no accident."
