Varija had wrapped her arms around N'vanik in a fashion that can be called only possessive. Her skin was covered with film of sweat and she was waiting her breath to calm down before speaking.
Suddenly aware of how hot he was, N'vanik shifted to get out of her arms.
"Hey," Varija muttered softly and her hold of him tightened by a reflex.
"Hey yourself." He used a little more force and pulled away from her.
"That was quite a ride," Varija smiled.
"Yeah. Maybe we can have another some time." He felt a light stinging along his back. She hadn't been kidding about leaving marks.
"I would love that," Varija said softly. She sat up, found her shirt and used it to wipe some mosture from her face.
He stretched a little, feeling the sting again, and got up. "I'll keep you in mind, then."
"Oh, come now, you can't be leaving right away. What's the rush? Lie back and relax a little," Varija said and patted the mattress.
"I've got a lot to do. I shouldn't have even spent this long with you, but I needed a break." He was still behind on hidework and he didn't think he'd ever get caught up.
"Busy, busy weyrleader," Varija said and smiled. "Breaks do you good, so does little naps."
"If I had more time." He shrugged and bent down to grab his pants.
While he was occupied with the pants, Varija kicked his shoes beneath the bed, out of view. Perhaps that way she could make him stay a bit longer.
He located his shirt and went over to grab it and pull it on. He looked around the weyr, searching for his boots. They _should_ be over by the couch. "Hey, you seen my boots?"
"No, I haven't," Varija replied.
"Wanna help me look?"
"Sure," she replied. Varija got up from the bed and made a pretence for looking around for his boots. "Man, you must have kicked them off with some force."
"Not that hard." Was that something under the bed? He knelt down to look.
Varija just shrugged. "Hey, do you want something to drink?" she asked.
Yes, those were his boots. He pulled them out. "No, thanks."
"Anything else?" Varija asked. "We could go to eat together."
Ok, that was going too far. Trying to lure him back into bed he could understand, but now she was getting clingy. "No." He sat down and pulled his boots on.
"Do you want to come back later?"
"You know, if you're really that lonely, you should go find someone else," he said.
"Who said I was lonely?" Varija's tone was sharper than she intended. "I just like you," she continued with softer voice and beautiful smile.
"Well, that's very nice. See you at drills." He got up and walked out of the room.
Varija wanted to run after him and drag him back. But experience had taught her that it wasn't a wise move. She could only hope he would come back later for some more. After the bronze had lifted off from her ledge, she vented her frustration by kicking over a chair.
}: Why do you do this? You shouldn't chase them, you let _them_ chase _you_, that's how things should be, :{ Attiath said in puzzled tone.
** That's how it is with dragons, not with humans.** Varija replied.
