What was this feeling?
She ran along the beach, slowly jogging, trying to look inside her heart.
What was this feeling? It had been turns since she'd felt this way. Turns and turns. She thought back, remembering the face of the Hallmaster as he came to tell the 7 turn old Dysali that her parents had been lost at sea, with their dolphin partners. She didn't remember the words he said, or what happened next. But she remembered the feelings....
Hurt. Lost. Alone. Wounded. Pain. Sadness. Anger. Bitterness. Abandoned. Frustration. Need. Yearning. Hurt.
Unable to continue moving, and unaware that Lillyth was creeling madly and not far behind her, she stumbled to the sand, still warm with the sun of the day, though it was evening.
No, she still didn't know. What was this feeling?
Water splashed and Lillyth's loud, angry bugle broke through her disasterous spiral.
}:Not Alone! NOT ALONE:{
That was all she heard, but it didn't seem to make sense, at first.
How had she gotten here? Where was she? Blue eyes gone red and dry from weeping peered blearily around the quiet beach, noting waves rolling and a pile of rocks near at hand. Sand was lifted and drained through fingers tan and skilled from mending straps, and oiling her dragon. Her dragon? She had a _dragon_.
}:Not Alone! NOT ALONE!:{
**Lillyth?** Her voice was not trustworthy. The hoarse sobbing that had seemingly not stopped had torn it from her. The vibrant green hide shone in the evening moonlight and she stared blindly for another several moments. **Oh LILLYTH!** Sense returned in a rush, and with it the memories. What had she done to her dragon? **Oh Lillyth! Im sorry!**
Love, warm and welcoming, simple and sweet, wrapped all around her like a warm blanket. Forgiveness, truly instant between such closely bound hearts and minds, followed the love and she collapsed against Lillyth's sun-warmed hide. The sweet warm scent of dragon enveloped her mind and senses and the tears rolled again, but this time there was a cleansing fire in the heat of her sadness. Not the bitter pain of the previous several candlemarks.
It was an uncountable time later when Lillyth finally deposited her weary rider at her weyr. The green dragon sought her couch, not understanding the emotions running rampant through her rider's mind. Human emotions were so ... odd... the green thought. But she did know that her rider was hurting, and it was Menanth's rider's fault.
A faint sound, almost like a snarl, rippled as Lillyth thought that, but she did not reach out to Menanth as she once might have done. The bronze had not wanted to talk to her earlier in the night. So, she curled up, her head on her forelegs, and watched the interior or the weyr.
Inside, Dysali was cradling a growing bundle of Wags, who was considerably upset by his person's long absence, and her emotional state. He seemed able to sense her pain, and could not keep himself from wagging his entire body - earning his name all over again - and licking Dysali's face nearly raw in his anxious need to make her feel better.
"Poor lad. I've neglected you too, hmm?"
Well no more, she promised herself. She would be the best dragonrider in the entire Weyr and the best canine owner ever. Tears stopped and that inevitable lift of her chin came to be, and some of her emotions settled inside the shell that she'd been in when she arrived at Dolphin Cove Weyr 2 turns ago.
She had never seen a need for strong attachments until she came here. Until D'ren.
Apparently she had been wrong to try with him. People that you loved always left you. Always.
But she hadf the only attachments she would ever need, now, in Lillyth and Wags.
So she would be the best greenrider and canine owner she could be. She could find some happiness, some pride in that fact, she knew.
After all, she would have time now. She planned to not look at another male outside of a Flight...ever again.
She would be proud and content in her life without the benefit of that kind of happiness; it just led to pain.
After all, what need had she of that sort of thing? She had Lillyth, Wags, and Thread to fight.
She would stay safe, inside her shell. And she would be fine.
Wouldn't she?
