K'deren

K'deren

Flutterbies danced in her stomach as she entered the dining hall. Tonight it wouldn't be a chance meeting, tonight they had planned to dine together, and whatever happened afterwards - happened.

Her hand fluttered nervously to her hair, smoothing it down once again. She seldom wore it down, but tonight it not only looked glossy and full, it also smelt heavenly with one of her own special concoctions. She just hoped K'deren liked what he saw. Glancing around the room, her eyes finally settled on the small table off to one side and the handsome man who sat there. A smile slipped unconsciously across her lips as she took a step further into the hall - the flutterbies battered heavily against her stomach.

The brownrider rose to his feet, a smile on his face as he watched the healer make her way in his direction. He looked her up and down, appreciating the effort she seemed to have put in to her appearance tonight. "You look nice tonight," he said.

"Thank you. I tried my best." she laughed nervously. "And you look... as handsome as usual." she felt a warmth creeping over her face at her admission.

K'deren held a chair out for her, "I tried too," he admitted.

"Is it just me who is nervous tonight?" Anji asked, meeting his eyes and feeling that all too familiar shiver through her body. "I feel like a young girl who's never been on a date before."

"Nerves can be a good thing," he commented. "That's what I tell my riders before a fall. Sometimes it takes as much courage to face thread as it does to dine with a beautiful woman."

"So you are as well? That makes me feel a lot more at ease." she chuckled softly. "I'm looking forward to getting to know you better, though."

"Me too," and there was a genuine smile on the brownrider's face. "We can take it as slow as you like, if that helps."

"Let's just take it as it comes?" she replied, not committing to a slow or fast relationship. "I think we'll know when to speed up or slow down, don't you?" she noted that his smile travelled to his eyes and a thrill of warmth spread through her.

"I'm sure we will," he agreed as he sat down. He'd arranged for some food to be brought over to them, one of the few perks of having those wingsecond knots he chose to use occasionally.

"We seem to be garnering a few glances tonight." she leaned forward across the table and whispered loudly. "I know in my case, people rarely see me out of my work tunic and trous, I suppose the same can be said of you?"

"Not in a long while," he replied as he lifted the cover off a bowl of salad. "But who cares if they look, they aren't important."

"True." she nodded, "Besides, when they're gossiping about us in the morning, they'll be giving some other poor person a break." She was having a hard time keeping her eyes of K'deren herself, so she really couldn't blame the other women for doing the same. He looked very handsome tonight and his eyes has a warmth to them that she was becoming fond of.

"Well by tomorrow there will be something else to talk about. But we will still have things to talk about. Like, like what your favourite foods are so that I can surprise you with them some time."

"Oh yes? And you will have to tell me yours as well. I want to know a lot more about you than that you're not so good with felines..." she couldn't resist teasing him.

"Well, maybe just one particular feline..." he joked.

"Oh? So you've been in contact with more since the other tried to detached your finger?" she asked, lifting her plate to him so he could serve her some of the salad and cold cuts that lay under the second cover.

"Well a stuffed one can't hurt me. Deralie seems to have accepted that for the moment."

She gasped at his words, before laughing softly. "You got off lucky, didn't you?"

"Luck has everything to do with it, after all, if it wasn't for that little wild feline, I'd not have met you."

"Oh...well..." a slight flush came to her cheeks, "maybe I should seek out the little creature and thank it for maiming you." she replied with a grin.

"Sometimes they have their uses."

"Hmmm... they do." she nodded, "I suppose I shouldn't admit this, but if we hadn't organised this get together tonight, I may have considered letting another loose near your quarters."

"My weyr isn't that hard to find."

"It isn't?" she asked, hiding a smile behind the glass she brought to her lips, "I wouldn't know." she continued, trying to fain innocence, but realising she was failing miserably.

"Well first you look for a brown dragon, followed by a string of toys..." He smiled, "Or you could just ask the laundry staff who have to deal with my youngest's clothes."

"Umm... I guess I should 'fess up, right about now." she said, placing her glass back on the table consideringly. Her finger slowly wiped at a dribble of wine that had run down the side, before lifting her finger to her lips and licking the drop off. Her eyes finally returned to K'deren, "I know where your quarters are..." she said quietly, her eyes now breaking gaze with his.

"And I have to admit too, I know where your rooms are." He grinned, "It seems we were both, curious."

"Mmm, curious." she said, her voice deepening. She could feel the flutters in her stomach growing, knowing he too had gone looking. She picked up her glass and held it out towards him, "To curiosity." she said, with meaning.

"Curiosity," he echoed, touching his glass to hers. "Let's hope there's always something to be curious about."
