Taraglan read through the newly promoted Journeyman's files again to refresh his memory as he waited for the young man to arrive. Ednan was adjusting to his new position just as Taraglan himself was and the Hallsecond was looking forward to guiding him from the very start of his time as a Journeyman.
Ednan knocked the door. "Hallsecond Taraglan? You wanted to see me?" he asked, wondering what it was. Perhaps he was going to get his first assignment. His promotion was so new, he still hadn't any assignment. He just continued his studies, although now he was _specializing_.
"Yes, Ednan. Take a seat," he said, motioning to the available chairs. "Congratulations on your promotion," he said with a smile.
"Thank you, sir," he smiled back.
"And, now that you are a Journeyman, what would you like to do with yourself? Get some experience teaching, or travel for a bit?" There were many needed tasks that Ednan could now do, at the Hall and beyond. "Besides specializing in dolphin healing, I don't have any clue," the young man replied with a lopsided smile.
"All right, then. I'm learning the ins and outs of this along with you, but here" he passed a hide to Ednan, "is a basic list of possible assignments. You could teach a basic first aid or dolphin anatomy course here, under the supervision of someone more experienced. Or, if you want some hands-on experience, I would recommend Away Pod Duty or Fleet Duty." He paused, allowing Ednan to read and absorb the information.
"Hmm, I would like to try teaching the junior apprentices," Ednan said.
"Good. Do you have any teaching experience?" Sometimes more senior apprentices were assigned to help the juniors study for exams. Taraglan made a mental note to ask Mahantan about the system at this Hall.
" A bit. I've assisted on classes," Ednan replied.
"And, is there a Journeyman you would prefer to work with?" There were several specializing in healing that could supervise and advise. Maybe Ednan had already formed a relationship with one of them. "Otherwise I can speak with them and see which of them can mentor you."
"I got a long with all of them," Ednan said. He generally did get along well with people, either because of the childhood in harper hall or just by his nature.
"Then I'll get in contact with all of them this sevenday and get back to you." He needed to get to know all of the Journeymen anyway. "Do you have any questions?"
"Yes. When I will be allowed to partner with Kegy or is it up to the dolphins?" Ednan asked.
"It is up to Kegy, with the approval of the pod and us. Generally it won't happen immediately after promotion to Journeyrank but I'll bring it up with the Hallmaster to see what her policy is."
"Yes, sir," Ednan nodded with understanding."All right. If there's nothing else," he paused for a moment to make sure Ednan had no other questions, "We'll meet again after I've spoken to the Hallmaster and the Journeymen. Then you'll be able to start teaching."
"Thank you, sir" Ednan said.
As soon as Ednan had left, the Hallsecond scribbled down a few more notes about the meeting before he forgot, then looked up when another Journeyman knocked lightly on the door. "Come on in, Journeyman Ayana."
