Fielton

Fielton

When Berjahir recieved the summons to Fielton's office he hesitated a
moment. He couldn't think of a reason why at all, so was naturally
suspicous. He refused to be nervous though, it wasn't like him and the now
Hall Master rarely saw eye to eye on issues. So after taking a moment to
jot a note on what he was working on, then to neaten his appearance he
walked over to the Hallmaster's office.

So there he stood. Berjahir gave the door a precise set of knocks and
announced himself. "Hall Master Fielton? It's Master Berjahir ."

"Come in, Berjahir." Fielton was standing in front of the hearth in his
office with a mug of klah cradled in his hands, looking tired. "I'm sorry to
summon you so early, but I'm afraid there's been an incident."

"An incident?" One of Berjahir's brows shot up in worry. There had been a
few _incidents_ of various types of late. What kind of incidenet did the
Fielton mean? "You know Sir, I would full heartedly help the Hall in
anyway, regardless of the type of incident. Is there something I can do?"
He wasn't even stretching the truth in his statement. The Hall was his
life, second to none, not even his family.

"Arastar had a heart attack," Fielton said, knowing there was no real way to
blunt the news. "He's fine... resting comfortably enough... but the healer
assures me that there is no way he can resume his duties. I'd like to know
if you're willing to take his place."

Stuned, Berjahir replied immediately. "Fielton, Sir, it'd be an honor! Of
course I will take the position." He then stoppped. **I should be more
concerned about Arastar** he thought, but this opportunity, it was a major
recognician of his hard work for the Hall.

Fielton looked relieved. "Good. I just wish we were promoting you under
better circumstances."

"Of course Sir," Berjahir replied, with a grave nod. "When Master Araster
is accepting visitors, I would like to visit him." He said, deciding that
was the proper response. It gave the proper acknowledgement of respect,
plus he would have to see him to be aware of any issues for his new role.
**Not that I don't already keep a good eye on the apprentices.**

"Why don't you stay in my office, then," Fielton replied, gesturing to a
chair. "I'm waiting for the healer to come and report to me. We can talk
about your duties while we wait."

"That sounds like an excellent idea. Thank you, sir," Berjhair said as he
took the indicated chair. One thing he did envy the Hallmaster was the fine
fireplace in his office. Even with this promotion, he knew the Master of
Apprentices office did not have a fireplace.
However, he was pretty sure you could still feel the heat from the
Hallmaster and seconds offices in it, and that would be quite appreciated
during the long winter.

"I know Araster has set up a second office of sorts over in one of the empty
classrooms. You can continue the practice if you want... though I think that
having things there made it easier for him. Running from one end of the Hall
to the other was hard for him."

Although Berjhair considered himself in _much_ better health then Araster
ever had been he liked the idea of the second office. Not only would it
allow himself to be closer, or further to the classrooms, depending on what
he was trying to do at the time, but **I can keep them guessing** he
thought. "It is a good practice Hall Master, I think I would like to
continue to observe it. That is, unless the space would be better used for
something else?"

"I only wish," Fielton replied a little gloomily. Having been roused from
bed with such unfortunate news hadn't done much for his mood. "We don't have
enough apprentices to fill more than one or two of the classrooms at a
time."

"In time, sir, perhaps." Berjhair replied. He would like to see the Vintner
Hall reach its old prominence. "We, could, start keeping the promsing
apprentices from walking the tables sir, that would eventually fill the
classrooms," he said, making a rare joke.

Fielton snorted. "Yes... it would fill it with bearded apprentices in their
thirties. Not exactly the look I'd like..."

"Yes, that would be entirely foolish, I agree." Berjahir responded with a
wave of his hand, dismissing the idea.

Smiling, Fielton held out his hand to Berjahir. "You're going to be a good
Master of Apprentices, Berjahir. I'm glad we've got you."

**And I'm glad you've got me too Sir** he thought inside his head as he
accepted Fielton's hand, and bowed his head. "Happy to be of service
Fielton, Sir."
