"Give it here Wags!" She fussed at her canine and then clipped the lead on his collar as he gave her the piece of wood. "Naughty. You can't just pick up whatever you want." Dysali tugged on the lead and took off down the beach. Only when she was with Lillyth or Wags did her face light up any, and it had taken her so many months just to come to terms with D'ren being gone from her life.
And he was _gone_. They never talked. Their eyes didn't even meet if she ever saw him. She tried _not_ to see him, so maybe it was her fault, and not his. But she did not want to see him with other women. Never, ever. Her heart could not take that, she was sure.
Looking down the beach, her thoughts strayed to happier times as she walked.. All of them together, spending evenings in this or that weyr, playing dragonpoker or just .. being. She barely saw any of their old friends, any longer, though she thought D'ren still did.
Sighing, she tried to shake loose of those thoughts, and nearly jumped out of her skin when Wags starting barking. Not two steps in front of her, D'cal was sitting relaxing. Wags was barking at the bluerider in greeting... and thankfully keeping Dysali from tripping on him!
"Oh! D'cal! Sorry! We ..l .. didn't see you! Hi." She smiled, though it did not reach her eyes, unwilling to just sit down as she would have...before... especially if he didn't want company.
"Dysali," the bluerider smiled. She didn't have to sit, he was willing to stand up. "Sorry, I guess I was a little lost in thought. I didn't notice you there." He brushed the sand from his bum as he gave her a self-conscious smile. "You weren't calling me or anything, were you?"
She smiled broader at him, finally a touch of it in her yes. "No, I sure wasn't calling. In fact, if Wags here hadn't started barking, we'd have run right over you I think. I was... lost in thought... too." She cocked her head sideways at him. "We haven't talked in forever... wanna keep me company for a while? I'm just walking Wags."
"Ah, well, sure. I was just... sitting." She was right, it had been forever since they had last met. "Do you always walk this way?"
"I walk this way sometimes. Sometimes when I need to clear my head." She offered. "How are you D'cal?" She took a few steps down the beach as Wags tugged on her.
"Oh, you know," he shrugged, "I sleep, I eat, I drill, fly Thread... Just living, I guess." Shards, that sounded so depressing! "D'cal! That sounds awfully sad! You and me both. What is wrong with us? We used to have such fun...." She turned toward him, her head cocked sideways. "I should have sought you out long before this, it sounds as if we were both needing some... excitement!"
He chuckled softly. "Excitement, eh? What kind of excitement?"
"Well something besides Thread. Sometimes it seems that's all we do, though that is exciting enough. But there are some large holes in my life, these days, ones Lillyth can't fill by herself. Maybe we could go somewhere or have one of those all night dragonpoker games.... " She mused as they walked. Another girl would have taken the "excitement" and perhaps flirted with the bluerider, but it was _D'cal_. He was her _friend_!
"Or go to a Gather somewhere?" D'cal suggested, remembering the last all night poker game they had involved friends who seemed to have moved on with their lives.
"Oh! That sounds fun, D'cal. Would you .. want to?" She had a bit of the same thoughts about all night dragonpoker. It would remind her too much of D'ren. But a gather... she and D'ren hadn't been to a Gather in months. That would be a fine way to 'get out'. And she and D'cal sounded like they both needed to get out.
"Let's do it! It sounds like fun to me." He hadn't been to a Gather since he had Impressed, and it would be good to get out of Dolphin Cove for a while. The same stones were getting rather old.
