Description: Cosani tries to 'practice' again, this time with a trader.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 5, day 13 of Turn 5
Most of the traders were clustered near the stage in the dining cavern. They laughed and danced, and a few played along with the harpers. Cosani searched through them, the way Shalith searched through the herdbeasts in the paddock. The comparison made her lips twitch up in a smile and made her feel a little better about what she was doing. She settled on one boy in particular, a little older than her, and handsome. In two days, he and the other traders would be gone, and wouldn't be back for months. She would see him a few times a turn, at most, and that made her feel a little better, too.
When he left the dining cavern alone, she followed him. Cosani almost lost her nerve several times during the short walk, but this was her best chance. She had to get this over with. When the boy paused just outside the entrance, she caught up with him. "Excuse me?"
Raldan turned, a smile appearing on his lips as he recognized her. He'd seen her watching him and the other traders earlier. She had been easy to pick out since she sat by herself behind the others that had crowded near his family. "Yes?"
For a moment her heart hammered and she forgot what she was going to say. There was a waver to her voice when she said, "I was wondering if you've been properly welcomed to the Weyr."
"Well, I've been here before." he replied, stepping closer to the girl. She was pretty enough to catch his attention, though young, weyr girls tended to be more mature than the hold girls he usually had fawning over him. "But I'm always open to a good welcoming. Did you have anything in mind?"
Cosani had no idea what she was doing, but _he_ didn't know that. That was the point. Someone who didn't know her, that she wouldn't see every day. Someone she could forget about tomorrow, if things didn't go well. She moved toward him until they were almost touching, then she leaned up and kissed him.
The young trader pulled her against him as he kissed her back, his hands trailing along her back before settling down low. His father had just talked with him about how he needed to stay out of trouble. How they'd lose contracts if he kept leaving a wake of disillusioned girls at every hold they visited. This was a Weyr though, and she was a rider. She'd have no want to be wisked off for the caravan life. He needed breath so he pulled back slightly and grinned. "That's quite the welcome."
Encouraged by the kiss itself, and his reaction to it, Cosani smiled. "I'm only getting started."
Raldan looked down at the girl and brushed a curl of hair off of her cheek. He let his hand caress her neck and carry down to her waist, smiling mischievously as she gave a small shudder in his arms. He kissed her again, slipping his tongue in briefly between her lips, then broke off as he heard two loud men approaching. "Is there someplace perhaps a bit more private where I could be welcomed?"
She didn't want to go there, but she couldn't think of a better place. "My weyr." She took his hand and led him inside. Her heart was beating fast, and it wasn't all from nervousness. "What's your name?"
He gave a low chuckle, "Does it matter?"
The question surprised her, and she thought about it for a moment. "No." She smiled. "I guess it doesn't."
"Good." They were on the same page then, his father would have nothing to complain about. "It's Raldan." he added with a mischievous grin.
"Cosani," she said. She led him into the hall and up the stairs. During the walk, she grew a little uncomfortable, not knowing what to say to fill the silence, or if she needed to say anything at all.
Before they reached the brighter light at the top of the stairs, he stopped and pulled her against him, the uneven steps making them equals in height. He kissed her, enjoying the taste of her lips and the smell of her hair as he ran his fingers through it. He'd always had fun with the girls at the Weyr, but this was different, even for him. Never had he been invited back to a weyr, never had he had to put zero effort into a catch before. It gave him quite the euphoric feeling.
For a moment, she forgot where she was going. When she pulled back, she had to blink to clear her head. This wasn't like with Kh'tor, not at all. She didn't want to stiffen up when he touched her, or kissed her. Even though nervousness still sat in her stomach, she didn't want to run away. "It's not much farther," she said, taking his hand again.
The curtain dividing the weyr was pulled back to let in the night air. Glowing eyes greeted them in the gloom. "This is Shalith," Cosani said.
"Good Evening Shalith." Raldan made a bow but didn't venture closer to the dragon. Anything larger than the beasts that pulled the caravans weren't high on his list to befriend. He knew he didn't have anything to fear from it though, Weyrfolk were a lusty lot, if their dragons minded, he'd have heard stories before. "Now where were we?" he said with an expectant grin as he pulled the girl to him again.
"About to have some fun." She slid a hand under his shirt.
"Exactly."
