Z'ku

}:It is time.:{

That was all the warning Sorsha received before Roseth bugled out a challenge to the males of the Weyr. The time had finally come, and as she tore though the maze of corridors that let out of the Weyr, Sorsha was scared. Not scared about the flight, she was used to Roseth being opinionated and stubborn, and she knew that she could control her. Not scared about the sex that would follow, she'd been married for long enough to get over the shyness that she had as a holder. No, she was scared about who the winner might be. If it was Ri'len, it would be wonderful, just a hightened experience for them to share together. If it was anyone else... their relationship was rocky as it was, not even quite mended after the events of the previous sevenday. Would it hold, would it be able to repair itself and be as strong as it was before?

She heard Monilath's voice in her head, it shocked her slightly as it sounded so much like Ri'len's. }:We are coming.:{

That gentle assurance was enough to settle her fears, to tramp down on them and focus as she stopped running and waited next to the cot for Ri'len and the others to come.

Of all the greens that had risen, this was the one Ri'len did not want to miss. He hadn't wanted to chase any of the others, and he hadn't wanted Monilath to win the one where he _had_ chased. Monilath hadn't caught that one and Ri'len was glad of it. He had been told that he could affect his dragon in some ways and he often wondered if he held his dragon back. Monilath chased despite the fact Ri'len didn't want him to, but the dragon hadn't won. Was it because of him? Had the bronze just seen that chase as practice?

Regardless, this was one flight Ri'len wanted Monilath to win. He hurried through the halls shifting around people and muttering apologies, though he passed most of the people before they could hear him. He broke out into the sunlight and squinted, but didn't slow down until he reached Sorsha. He wasn't the first to arrive, but he inched his way as close as possible to her.

Monilath had arrived, of course, long before his rider and crouched at the edge, his eyes intent upon Roseth. His claws opened and shut and dug grooves into the ground as he waited for the flight to begin in earnest.

Of course there would be more than one dragon interested in the chase. And it wasn't long before Naath made his rider aware of what was going on.

**Are you sure you want to chase?** was all I'lan had time to ask before Naath was making it perfectly clear that he would chase and he would try his hardest. The bronze was more than aware that I'lan liked this rider of this green and wanted to make him happy.

**You have _got_ to be kidding me!** F'gol's jaw dropped as he came upon the group forming around Sorsha.

}:Roseth is beautiful, I'll make her mine.:{ Tealth replied excitedly.

"Ri'len..." He didn't know what else to say to his friend as he came up next to him. If he won, Ri'len would kill him, he was sure of it.

E'ron was so distracted by the feelings from his blue that he almost bumped into F'gol. He cast him a quick glance, color rising in his cheeks, then turned his attention to Sorsha.

Outwardly confident, Z'ku felt fluttering in his stomach as he joined the other male riders. **Why Roseth?** Xemroth hadn't chased before now, and Z'ku wondered what was different about this green.

}:I want her,:{ the bronze answered, and for him that was reason enough.

Now that Kedvencth had started to chase, nothing kept him away from flights, or so it seemed to N'mor when he joined the growing ring around Sorsha. He felt awkward, since as weyrlingstaff assistant, he knew her, had seen her Impress and knew she was mated.

**They just keep getting younger,** Sh'dori remarked when he and Rahmuth came in. That the brown wanted to chase, was nothing new. The brown rider scratched his jaw. **Can't you pick bit more experienced greenriders?** he complained.

K'hetah's thoughts, had he known it, were similar to the brownriders'. **I'm too old to be playing with weyrlings,** he told himself with a resigned sigh, surveying the group. Loeth didn't chase often, but usually chased greens ridden by people his rider knew. **That'll teach me for talking to them during their weyrlinghood.**

Roseth was in the air. It happened so fast that Sorsha was taken off guard. Suddenly though, she was flying, could feel what Roseth felt as she beat her wings strongly up into the low hanging clouds. She could feel the dragons give chase, and could feel Roseth's pleasure at so many vying for her.

**Monilath, you want Monilath.** Sorsha told her green as she grabbed at Ri'len. ** He is your weyrmate, you said he was yours.**

}: He will have to catch me. He is mine, but I am not yet his. There are many here that want me. :{ Roseth replied as she bugled a challenge to the fastest, most cunning, and best of those after her.

Sorsha felt herself awash with the same feelings. She released her hold on Ri'len and swayed between the group that surrounded her. Everywhere she moved someone was there. She would lean into them for a moment, some faces familiar, some not, then pull away towards another. Being herself and being Roseth made everything blurry and confusing. She knew that she needed to be the dominant mind, the one in control, but she couldn't seem to focus.

"Sorsha." Ri'len seemed to realize Sorsha's confusion. He stepped forward, drew as close as he could, "Hold on to her." Already the heat was rising, already he could feel the hold take him. Soon he wouldn't be Ri'len, just Monilath. For the moment, however, he still had most of his senses about him. "Don't let her go."

}:Roseth!:{ Naath called to the green as he himself took to the air. }:You want someone who has done this before, choose me and I will show you what it takes to have a great first flight.:{ Perhaps the bronze was bragging a little, but there were times when words could and would work.

Xemroth took to the air with all the arrogance of a young bronze. He didn't need to sweet talk Roseth, since he was clearly the best. Z'ku fought the emotions of his bronze, not liking how much control he was losing. E'ron reached out for Sorsha when she drew near. How come he hadn't noticed how beautiful she was before?

}: Forget those young ones. You want someone with experience!:{ Rahmuth called to the young green.

K'hetah kept an eye on the younger ones even as Loeth's aerial chase dragged much of his attention from the ground-bound maneuvering. But the bronzerider had been an adult Impression and experienced many flights over the Turns; he had a far better chance than the just-graduated riders of keeping his wits about him and watching for problems.

F'gol felt Tealth surge forward. He would win with speed, not stamina, so he had to act fast. Sorsha was right there, so close, he could almost taste her on his tongue. He needed to win this one.

Monilath didn't bother to call out to the dragon. He wasn't going to waste the energy. No, he focused instead upon her form, her movements, watching carefully to see when she would turn, when she would twist. His wings pumped steadily as he bided his time. There would be a moment, an opening, and when it came, he would be there.

Naath was more than aware of the competition. But he wasn't going to let it worry him, not when that gorgeous green prize lay at the end of this. Wings beat powerfully as he jockeyed himself into place, somewhere where he could see Roseth.

Someone grabbed her arm, tried to pull her to them, but Sorsha recoiled and shook him off. She recognized a face, felt a need pulling at her, she wanted him, he was hers. Another hand shifted her attention, she didn't know him. He was strong, handsome, she wanted his hands to claim her.

She wouldn't be had, she would fly out of reach of them all. Roseth turned her head to look back at the males and was surprised to see how close some of them were. She pushed harder, she had only just begun, she wouldn't let them take her just yet!

Ked was determined to keep up with her. He would not give up before she had made her choice!

Naath really knew he could do this, he stretched further, beat his wings hard. The green would and should be his if he had his way.

Tealth pushed himself, pushed. He knew Roseth, he'd flown with her since her first flights. He knew how she moved, how she caught currents. And she knew him. She knew he was fast, brave, and strong. That he was better than the bronzes that had started to overtake him. If he just pushed himself a little bit farther...

K'hetah glanced away for only a moment to look into the sky in the direction where his unsuccessful bronze was already spiralling away with an assumed air of indifference, and then he looked back at the group. First flight for the young greenrider -

Roseth felt herself tiring, knew she would soon be caught. Would she leave it to chance, or would _she_ be the one to pick who was worthy? She was no pliant willing green, no, she was _Roseth_, and would only allow the best to be her mate. And she knew who that was. With a final trumpet she called to him. }:Claim me! :{
