Description: Aidiata visits her Grandfather's hold.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 9, day 10 of Turn 5
Aidiata hadn't been home in sometime. She was excited to make the trip. She carefully put Ambylith's straps on and smiled to herself. Her family would so love to see her lovely green. With one last check she quickly climbed up. Ambylith sprang sky word and they were /between/.
She came out above the hold and laughed as she saw all the little figures come running out. From her vantage point she could still tell which slow ambling figure was her grandfather. Ambylith landed daintily and Aidiata slid down. She stood beside her dragon a moment as the kicked up dust settled.
"Hello grandfather." She said. Her eyes searched his old leather face for any sign of misfortune. She could see that he was getting old and perhaps finally feeling his age. Her heart broke as she saw the small tear of joy trail down one weathered check.
"It's good to see you my girl." He held out his arms and she couldn't help but allow them to engulf her. She had missed his comfort. After he held her for a bit he pushed her away enough to look at her. His smile froze a bit as he looked behind her. She turned to see her uncle. He looked as disapproving as ever.
"I see you decided to come visit finally. Been to busy at that weyr of yours to come check on your family." He shook his head at her.
"Sorry Uncle. I had to wait till Ambylith was old enough and then drills and…" She was hurt. She hadn't been able till now. Why was he being so hard on her? She was a dragonrider now. She helped protect Pern. Wasn't that something? She felt herself ready to cry. Then she felt the comforting love of her dragon.
"Henual, enough. We should be proud of her." Dinote grimaced at his daughter's husband.
"Why, because she went off to the weyr? Because she rides a dragon? When your son died and we all pitched in to care for her, you said she would do right and honor the hold. As soon as a dragonrider said she should go to the weyr she was gone. No thank you. No nothing. And then she turns up out of the blue and expects a warm welcome." He shook his head and walked away.
Aidiata's heart broke. . She hung her head. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Did he really feel that way about her? Was she really that thoughtless? She didn't hear her grandfather's comforting words over the pain as she was lead inside. The only comfort that registered was that of her green. Amylith would always love her.
