Description: Tavia helps Qorri with ferry duty.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 10, day 25 of Turn 5
Some of the riders had volunteered to help Qorri with the Hatching,
which was very helpful and fortunate. Most of them would be on ferry
duty, picking up important people that were invited. Others were charged
with picking up last minute tithes that were integral to the celebration.
She had scheduled meetings with each of them to let them know what
they were going to be doing and when.
Tavia trotted down the ramp toward the lower caverns to answer her
summons to meet with the headwoman. She knew the Hatching was
approaching so she wasn't surprised by the request. She knocked at the door
and peeked her head in "Ma'am?" she said with a smile in her voice.
"Greenrider Tavia, you wanted to see me?"
"Aye please come in, greenrider. Just needed to go over everything if
you have the time." Qorri began to search for her list.
She smiled and moved into the room. Hatchings were always an exciting
time in the Weyr. She'd been to many but the preparation and celebrations
were almost like Turnover. So much had to be done, she didn't envy the
headwoman's job. "As much time as you need," she said.
"Allright well, I've given you ferry duty if that's allright. The Wingleaders
were kind enough to excuse some riders to help for a couple days before."
Qorri shuffled through the hides. "I don't want to tire out your green. Do
you think it'd be okay to do a few pickups and then I just need some last
minute tithes brought in?"
"Sure" she said with a smile. That didn't sound like a very tough schedule.
"Do you have something written out for me?" she asked.
Qorri nodded and handed the hide over. "There are the pickups and the back
is the list of tithes."
Tavia leaned forward to take the hide and look over the list. Everything seemed
to be in order and they could do it easily. All the locations were known to her
so she wouldn't have to go find them first in preparation. After she'd flipped
the skin she looked up. "Are these tithes ready now? We could start with those
right away."
"It's mostly foodstuffs so they have to be fresh. Tomorrow would be
fine, though." Faranth knew they couldn't keep the fish fresh for very long, evenwith
the cold of /between/.
"Alright," she said and then looked at the short list of passengers.
"Is this the order
in which you want them to arrive?"
"Indeed. Take special care with the Lord and Lady of Emerald Falls.
We'll be sending two of you for them since they'll be staying over and will have
luggage. Wouldn't want to overload your green." Qorri scribbled something as she thought of it.
"Yes Ma'am," she said grateful for the Headwoman's thoughtfulness.
"When you're finished, just come by and let me know. In return, you
can have your pick of anything in stores." It was also a way to clear out
some of the items.
Tavia grinned at the headwoman. "Thank you very much!" She hadn't been
expecting any reward.
"No problem. Unless you have any questions, you can go back to your duties
now." Qorri looked up at her, scanning her face for any indication that she had
something to say.
"No none, thank you." she said with a smile and exited the office.
