A Birthingday Visit

Description: Kirra's parents surprise her by visiting her for her birthingday.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 7, day 18 of Turn 3

Kirranna sighed. She was sixteen turns-old now, and it promised to be an uneventful day. What with lessons and chores she knew she would actually be busy but she had nothing fun to look forward to.

She pulled herself out of bed and got her clothes and toiletries bag and headed to the bathing cavern.

After a soothing bath she decided she would do everything she could to make her day as easy and carefree as possible. She even decided to be nice to the other girl candidates.

She smiled to all the other Candidates as she left the barracks and made her way to classes. After finishing her classes and humming herself through her chores she made her way to the weyrbowl to watch the dragons flying above her head.

She heard a noise behind but didn't think anything of it since the Weyr was full of people it was probably someone going to meet someone down by the herd beasts where a few dragons were feading.

"Hey there Seashell."

Kirra jumped at her childhood nickname that her father had given her when she told him that she wanted to be as beautiful as a seashell and he had said that she had always been as pretty as the most beautiful one.

"Daddy?" Kirra turned her head to see her mother and father standing behind her with wide grins on their faces.

"Hello my girl!" Kirranna's mother opened her arms as her daughter ran to her and embraced her.

After giving her father a generous hug as well she stepped back and looked at her two beaming parents standing before her.

"How did you know where I was." she ushered them to come and sit down where she had been watching the dragons. "I was just going to spend the rest of the day laying out here watching the wings practice."

"Well we thought that you might want a bit of a celebration so brought some of your favorite snacks and asked around to figure out where you were last seen."

"Well you found me!" she hugged them again and watched as her mother pulled out some pastries. "This is very sweet mother but you didn't need to do this." She knew that she was actually really glad they had come but she didn't want her parents to think they _had_ to do this.

Kirranna's father swallowed his bight of a tart pastie and smiled, "Oh, well then we can just leave." His eyes danced playfully as he watched his daughter smile and shake her head at him.

Then there was a loving silence as the little family leaned back, contently eating sweets and watched the dragons fly.
