Cosani

Cosani

"Got a towel?" Meledei asked as folded hers over her arm and grinned
over at her friend. "Unless you want to just let the wind dry you
off." She commented, her foot kicking playfully at the sand, though
only a little fell onto Cosani's.

"Yep." Cosani pulled her towel from her bag. "The only thing worse
than being covered in sand is being covered in _wet_ sand."

"You know it's going to take _days_ just to rid ourselves of said
sand." Meledei pointed out, then gestured down the white beach she
and Cosani had chosen. "But hey, that's half the fun, right? I guess
that means you don't want to make any sand holds, huh?"

"That's for little kids."

"Or big kids!" Meledei corrects with a laugh. "Come on, it's _fun_.
You can destroy them afterwards and then make more and destroy them
again. Pretend your a giant dragging coming to rampage on a hold that
refuses to tithe. Or something."

"Maybe later. Right now I want to go swimming." Cosani's swimming
skills had improved quite a bit since she moved to Dolphin Cove.

"All right." Meledei lay out one towel and then dropped the other on
top of it. Next came her sandals which she kicked off, then grinned
over to her friend. "Race you to the water?"

"Sure." And with that, Cosani darted away.

Meledei laughed and bolted after Cosani. Her long legs propelled her
forward and her braid whipped wickedly with her movements. She caught
up to Cosani easily, laughing as she ran and didn't stop until they
had both run right into the small waves that teased the shore.

Cosani couldn't tell who got to the water first, but it didn't bother
her. With Meledei she didn't feel as competitive as she did with
everyone else. They waded out farther into the gentle waves. "So what
have you been up to?"

"Oh...nothing much." Meledei shrugged her shoulders, the skin already
bronzed by the sun's kiss. It would merely darken with more exposure.
"Just keeping busy and always looking forward to rest days like this
one. What about you?"

"I almost got scored, but luckily Shalith is fast." She'd been close
to getting scored before, but this had been the closest call yet.

"Ugh...I hope you can avoid it." The liklihood of never getting
scored was slim, especially for greenriders and those who flew in the
higher wings. Meledei had a better chance of going without, but even
then, the odds were against her. "Where did it almost get you?"

"It almost got our left side, but Shalith moved almost before I told her
to.
A pair below us took care of the clump, so it all worked out." Cosani
leaned back and took a few lazy strokes.

Meledei ducked under the water and swam beneath her friend, coming up
on the other side. "That's one of the problems with being on gold."
The former beastcrafter admitted with a soft sigh, "Everyone else has
to deal with the worst of it."

"Well, you can't move as fast." Although that wasn't much of an
argument with tiny Elleth. "And you need to stay as safe as possible."

"I know." Elleth was the fastest of the golds, but compared to the
greens, she certainly couldn't hold a candle. "But...it still feels
like I'm not pulling my share in a way." It wasn't exactly true,
Meledei just did a lot more work on the ground. "You just be careful,
okay?"

"For sure." Cosani would do what she could to avoid getting hurt, or
worse.

"Good." Meledei's face lit up with another grin. "Now, want to race to
that rock over there? I bet I can beat you this time!"

"This time? You beat me every time." While Cosani was a much better
swimmer now, she hadn't lived her whole life next to the ocean like
Meledei had.

"You just have to keep practising!" Meledei laughed as she began to
lazily drift toward said rock. "Eventually you'll beat me!"

"And when I do I'll gloat about it, for at _least_ a sevenday."

"Only a sevenday? I think you're losing your touch, Cosani." Meledei
slapped her hand against the water, sending a spray toward the
greenrider. "Now come on, practise makes perfect!"
