Description: I'lan and Qorri look at his options for a new weyr.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 13, day 9 of Turn 5
Qorri waited for the young rider to join her. She had a few empty weyrs in
mind that he might move to. She had gotten the information she needed
such as dragon color and size as well as if he had a weyrmate or not. The
Headwoman searched to make sure she had her keys.
"You asked to see me Ma'am?"
"Aye, bronzerider. I was thinking it was time you got a new weyr. The one
you're in now you've had since graduating weyrlinghood, isn't that right?"
Qorri was sure that was true, but wanted to double check.
"That's correct," replied the youngster, relaxing a little.
"Good...I have a few available. Do you have any preferences?" He didn't
exactly have rank yet, but the very fact that there were only about twenty
bronze dragons in the Weyr at any time was enough.
"Something with a sea view. Naath likes to look."
"High or low?" What that really translated to was whether or not he only
wanted access by dragon, though most of the sea-facing weyrs were that
way.
"If possible, something with ground access. Makes it easier to exercise my
canine."
"Allright, that will mean you'll need to choose one or the other. All the
weyrs that look out on the sea you'll have to fly in and out." Qorri wished
she had a dragon at times just to be able to look out at the waves. They
were beautiful.
"Do you have a map?" asked I'lan. "It might help me decide."
"Hold on.." She rummaged through her things to find a diagram. Pulling it
out, she smoothed down the edges and then pointed. "I have room for you
here, here, or here." The first was over the sea. The second was a ground
level weyr. The last one was above the Dining Cavern entrance.
I'lan studied things carefully. "That one could be noisy," he said after a
few moments, pointing to the one near the dining cavern.
"That's true, but it also means easy access to food." To some riders, that
was important.
"I'm not sure I'm bothered about that really. I think somewhere a little
quieter would be better for us."
"Allright well if you don't mind seeing if your dragon will give us a ride,
we can go check out the seaside one first." She started to head out of her
office since they had a plan in mind.
**Naath?** I'lan called the bronze before following the Headwoman. Maybe
this would be a better day than he thought after all.
When she reached the Bowl, Qorri stopped, looking up at the sky. It was a
good day. Smiling to herself, she thought about a dip later in the water.
The bronze dragon settled himself near his rider and the Headwoman.
}:I like this idea,:{ he told his rider.
"Do I go first?" She had mounted a few dragons in her time, but this one was big. Frowning, Qorri tried to think of how to do that with her skirts.
"Do you need help," asked I'lan.
**Help her, you know what to do," he told the bronze.
Naath moved himself so that mounting would be easier.
She pressed her lips together, then negotiated the way. It took some time,
but she finally managed to get into the passenger section of the harness.
"There we go.."
It was mere moments before I'lan, showing ease of practice, was in his seat. "Let's go check out the one with a sea view first."
"Do you remember where it was?" she said, knowing he wouldn't hear her
once they started to fly.
"We'll be there in a few moments," came the response.
Qorri sat back and prepared to enjoy the short ride. It wasn't often that
she got to be a passenger.
"Here we are." The bronze landed on a wide ledge of what was clearly an
empty weyr.
She waited until they were completely stopped before she got down. Qorri
settled her skirts and waited for I'lan before she headed inside.
I'lan followed. "You know," he began. "This doesn't seem quite as big as
mine now," he commented. "It might be the light though." An unused weyr, in
the gloom with no light on could either seem cavernous, or tiny.
"Hold on..." Qorri got on her tiptoes to unshield the glows that were set
around the space. It took her some time and coaxing but the weyr did become more inviting. "Walk around.....and don't forget the view you asked for." Qorri liked the breeze and the smell. It would keep the weyr cool.
"I'm still not sure it's us though." I'lan emerged from a corner, and then
went onto the ledge. "Great view."
"Mmmm...take you time. Do you even want to look at the one near the Dining
Cavern or just the other one?" Qorri listened to the waves coming in and
out.
"I think I'll pass on the one near the Dining Cavern."
"Okay well then the other one was on the other side of this cliff." She
waited until he said they were ready to go before she tried to get up on the big dragon again.
"I'm ready to go," I'lan said. "Naath will help you get on again."
Watching the dragon, Qorri made her way up slowly again. Settling into
the saddle, she caught her breath. **This must be a lot of exercise just
going up and down all day**
Some moments later they arrived at the ground level Weyr. Just as had been
described, there was no sea view, but a view of the Weyrbowl. "Bubbly would
adore this," I'lan said. "Freedom to come and go when thread isn't falling."
"There is access to the corridors and bathing chambers and it's larger than
your current weyr." Qorri got down, thinking she would just head down the stairs after he was through. "What do you think? Do you need some time to choose?"
"If you don't mind I think I do," replied I'lan. "I think I need to let
Bubbly see as well, only fair to him."
"No problem, I'll just head back down. You know where to find me." Qorri picked up her skirts and turned to head toward the exit.
