Description: C'jex and D'cal have alittle fun while on transport duty
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 13, day 9 of Turn 5

"Whoever thinks being a dragonrider is glamorous and romantic obviously
have not ever been on transport duty," D'cal sighed as he threw a stone
into the river. "Just how long do you think they're going to take to
finish looking at those silly old rocks, anyway?"

C'jex laughed at his friend's words. "D'cal, you just need to loosen
up a bit! We've a whole day out and about away from the Weyr. True,
we've got to cart things around all day, but at least it's something
different from the norm." He gave his friend a side-long glance and
then in a conspiratorial whisper added, "now, it would be fun if we
just took the dragons away for a bit and made our rock hunting friends
think we'd disappeared. That would really make things interesting." He
knew it wasn't the best idea for it could land them into quite a spot
of trouble, but it sure was fun to plot and plan something out of the
ordinary.

"And miss all this excitement?" D'cal began rolling his pants up around
his knees. The water looked cool and was crystal clear. "It is nice to
be out of the Weyr, I'll grant you that."

C'jex watched D'cal's actions and grinned. "A swim perhaps?" He asked,
yanking off his shirt before he could reconsider. He'd already removed
his flight gear as it had been far too hot to wait around in that. The
water was clear and shining in the sun and it didn't take long for
C'ject to slide into the cool dampness with a happy sigh.

"I think if I hadn't become a rider, I should have become a
dolphineer. I could spend all day soaking in the water."

"I thought you were a beastcrafter. Regretting that choice now?" D'cal
asked with a smile, wading into the water only as far as his calves.

C'jex laughed, "Dolphins are just another type of creature. Smarter,
yes, but I could have handled them, just as I've handled many other
beasts through the turns." He looked up and chuckled at D'cal standing
only calf-deep in the water. He, himself, had already plunked down
fully on a nice ledge he found near the edge. "You do know that the
water won't hurt you, don't you?" He grinned teasingly at his friend.

"No, but the wet trip /between/ won't be pleasant." And they could be
called to leave at a moment's notice.

C'jex snorted, "I'll suffer the consequences. I've suffered through
worse before!"

"Not one to learn from your mistakes, are you C'jex," the other
bluerider teased, kicking a little water his way.

"I don't make mistakes!" C'jex replied using mock arrogance. "Hey, watch
it!" He chortled as he splashed back at D'cal in retribution. The action
caused him to slip off the little ledge and go completely under the
water.

"Shards!" He bellowed when he broke through the surface again. "I didn't
actually mean to get _that_ wet."

"Well, a lesson for next time," D'cal laughed, though he did rather feel
sorry for the guy. "Find any nice fish in there you could herd?"

"I should pull you in here with me. Then we could both suffer!" C'jex
stated, even as he moved to the ledge of the water and hauled himself
off, shaking just as he pet was apt to do in such an instance. "I think
I've gotten water in my ear!" He exclaimed indignantly.

"Well, come on, get out of the water and sit in the sun. You'll dry
faster," D'cal sighed, shaking his head as if dealing with a troublesome
child. "Honestly, we can't take you anywhere, can we."

C'jex laughed, a wholesome and rather full sound. "Are you my keeper
now, D'cal?" He joked. "You could join me you know," he smirked and
wiggled his eyebrows a bit at his fellow blue-rider even as he moved
away from the water to look for a nice sunny patch.

"In the sun or in your misery?" D'cal moved back towards shore, wanting
to do nothing more than just feel the cool of the water on his feet a
moment. The moment was passed and the sun was calling.

"Well I could still give you a nice push!" C'jex called back, "but for
the moment I'd much rather find a nice spot to dry off." Slipping off
his trousers, and draping them over a small bush, C'jex planted himself
right in the center of a rather sunny spot and closed his eyes, savoring
the warmth after his little dip in the water.

"Your going to get dirt and grass all over your important bits," D'cal
snorted as he shoot the water from his feet.

C'jex laughed even harder, "Then I'll just have to wash them again,
won't I and we'll be right back where we started!" He didn't mind, not
much bothered him, "At least my pants will be dry!"

His wingmate couldn't help another dig at the poor man's expense. "From
what I hear, C'jex, your pants are _always_ dry."

C'jex grabbed a handful of the sandy dirt and flung it at D'cal in
retribution. He would have said more, but just then the two stone
gatherers returned calling for them.

"Shards," C'jex muttered, hopping up and pulling on his still wet pants.
He wasn't really looking forward to a ride /between/ without having
dried out completely.

"Oh, I do not envy you," D'cal said through his laughter. It was
shameful to laugh at another's pain, he knew, but C'jex really should
have known better! "It will be like puberty all over again when you
finally warm up."

"Lay off, D'cal," C'jex said, though he truly wasn't angry. C'jex hardly
ever got angry. "Toss me my gear instead of reminding me what a fool
I've been." He saw the rock studiers approach and waved their arm. He
raised his own in answer and then turned back to the task of redressing with a
grumble.

"They couldn't have just wanted a few more minutes," he muttered under
his breath.

"You should know most things in life come at the most inopportune
moment," D'cal shrugged, handing him his gear.

"Always the pessimest, eh, D'cal?" C'jex shook his head as he slipped
into his shirt and flight gear. His hair and trousers were still wet,
but he'd have to take his chances for the surveyors were now anxiously
hopping around waiting to be returned to the Weyr. "Transport duty," he sighed,
"not all its cracked up to be."
