Time Will Tell

Writers: Devin, Bree
Date Posted: 6th December 2005

Characters: Y'sani, D'ren
Description: Y'sani meets with D'ren as the new Weyrlingmaster.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 9, day 11 of Turn 3

Y'sani had made the decision to go through the weyrlings from eldest to youngest, which meant D'ren fell somewhere towards the end of the long line.
By the time he reached the young bronzerider he'd already gotten a good idea of what the situation was, but he wanted to give every weyrling the chance to speak to him and voice any concerns in private.

Waving the young man into his office, Y'sani smiled. "Have a seat, D'ren.
This won't take long." "Yes, sir." D'ren had already noticed that he had not been among the first weyrlings to meet with the new Weyrlingmaster, so perhaps his new teacher wouldn't show any preferences toward dragon color. That would be a welcome change.

"I've talked to some of your clutchmates already, but I want to give everyone a chance to ask me questions." Y'sani settled into the chair behind his desk. "From what I understand, I'll be your third Weyrlingmaster."

"Yeah. Things have been a little . . . crazy, around here," D'ren said. That might be putting it lightly.

"Crazy is one way of putting it," Y'sani replied lightly. "I want to know if you've got any questions or concerns regarding your training. With so many different teachers, I'd be amazed if you hadn't ended up confused about at least _one_ thing."

D'ren thought for a moment. "Well, sir, I would like if we spent some extra time on aerial formation and drills. J'darin left just as we were learning that, and I don't think we have a good enough understanding of the basics."

Y'sani nodded. "And those are far too important to be left to chance. What else? Have you noticed any of your fellow weyrlings having problems with anything?" "Not really, sir. We try to help each other out, and Xuxha is there for us.
She's been a huge help." D'ren thought things might have been much more chaotic without the Weyrlingmaster Third. "I'm glad to hear that." He'd gotten a good impression from Xuxha, and had heard nothing from the weyrlings to contradict it. It was a relief to know he wasn't going to have to work against time _and_ incompetant help. "She's a good teacher, and I'm hoping to find a 'second who is just as strong."

"It would be nice to have a full weyrlingstaff again." D'ren said. "Yes, I imagine it would be." Y'sani nodded and stood, an obvious indication that the meeting was coming to a close. "Well, if you don't have any other questions, I'll let you get back to your duties... but feel free to come by any time with your concerns."

D'ren rose. "I will. Thank you, sir." He already seemed to be an improvement over J'darin, but time would tell if he really was.
