Description: Xorian arrives to the Weyr and meets Qorri.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 1, day 3 of Turn 6
Xorian had heard of the hurricane that hit Dolphin Cove Weyr two days ago.
Seeing the effect it had was another thing. Of course, he had lived
through a hurricane or two himself;
first at Jade Harbor Hold, then on his last station near Topaz Seahold. The
Searchrider gave him directions for the Lower Caverns and he picked up his
bags, thanking the rider and the dragon. With a serious expression on his
face he followed the directions. He kept wondering if there were many
injuries and how quickly he would get into infirmary duty.
He found the Headwoman, directing her staff with the cleanup. "Ma'am?" he
called for her attention and waited for her to notice him.
Qorri turned from inspecting some damaged items to see a male. "Aye? You
are?"
"Xorian, journeyman healer. A Searchdragon just brought me in, I'm supposed
to become a candidate," the young man replied.
"So you have a token?" She wanted to see that proof before she went any
further.
"You mean this?" He showed her what the searchrider had given him.
"That's the one," she answered, taking it and putting it into her pocket.
"Go ahead and settle your pack in my office around the corner. We need a
bit of help and I should have quarters for you by this evening." Right now
the barracks needed to have a few repairs made before she could put her
candidates back in them.
Xorian nodded. "Was the hurricane a bad one? It didn't hit the hold I was
in."
"Not as bad as it could have been and we knew ahead of time so we got
ready." She gestured for him to follow her as she headed through the crowds.
"Any injuries?" Xorian's healer training was showing its head.
"A few, but it wasn't due to the storm, but rather the necessity of moving
the infirm and others to safety." Qorri checked over the Weyrfolk she
passed, then stopping once they reached the other candidates. "Xorian,
this is Dawl. He will show you the Weyr and make sure you eat. You can
work with his choregroup and I'll find you a place to bed down tonight."
She nodded to Dawl, who looked at Xorian. "We'll talk more about what will
fit best for you and a routine after evening meal."
"How about infirmary duties? I'm a journeyman healer after all," Xorian
asked, eager to see and get to work at the Weyr's infirmary.
"I understand that, but the Weyr's healers work a bit differently. I can't
introduce a new crafter into the mix during such a...volatile situation.
When things are more relaxed and we've had a chance to get organized,
we'll introduce you to them." Qorri knew that their team had been
developed and a change would be unwelcome at crisis time.
"Oh, I see," Xorian said, feeling disappointed.
She made a note to herself to talk to the Master Healer who ran that side of
things.
"So you'll be okay till after evening meal when we can get you settled then?
I'm sure Dawl has plenty of tasks you could help with."
"Yes, ma'am, I'm sure we get on fine," Xorian replied and gave Dawl a
friendly smile.
"Where did you come from again, Xorian?" she thought to ask, as an
afterthought.
"I was Searched from a small seahold near Topaz Sea Hold," Xorian replied.
"Ah okay. Well off with you two. I'll see you later." **Holders, always
harder
those ones**
Well, that wasn't exactly the kind of reception Xorian had waited for.
