Tavia

Tavia

Tavia couldn't do much more than sit and stare mesmerized at the
little firelizard egg late into the evening after U'kaiah left. }:I
get my own fire lizard?:{ **Yes love** she reassured her lifemate.
Sawauth enjoyed their attentions when she got them sometimes at the
lake.

She stoked her brazier a little and put the jar near where the little
one would stay nice and warm. The egg still seemed soft and there were
no rustlings but she sent lovely thoughts its way before she finally
got to sleep. In the morning it was more staring at the egg then she
took off to breakfast and then Janani's office.

She arrived before the weyrwoman and poured a cup of hot klah before
sitting at a small side desk to copy one of the hold tithe records.

Janani entered the office and immediately noted another's presence.
Glancing to the side, she smiled when she saw it was Tavia. The
greenrider had proven her worth and then some since Janani had become
Weyrwoman here.

"Good morning, Tavia. I'm surprised to see you here so early," she
greeted as she moved over to her own desk and the work that awaited
her.

Tavia looked up and smiled when Janani came into the office. "Just
wanted to get an early start." She looked back down at her work and
knew she was distracted. She written the same line twice. A heavy sigh
escaped and she shook her head. "I think I'm too distracted to do
this."

"Everything all right?" Janani asked as she settled herself. The way
Tavia had spoken had her concerned for her wingmate. "Is everything
alright with the babe?"

She looked back up and smiled, "Yes fine, it's just... well... U'kaiah
brought me a present."

Janani's eyes lit up. "A present? Do tell. What did he bring you?"

She chuckled and fiddled with her pen. "It's kind of funny really."
She looked up at the Weyrwoman. "I don't even remember what we were
talking about now but I made some comment about a flit... so he got me
an egg!"

"Oh!" Janani commented. She found the little flits rather useful and
bothersome at times, depending on her mood and that of Angdelouth.
"They can be quite useful if they are trained well. Angdelouth doesn't
mind them unless she's near her time. Then she can't stand the
creatures, but then again, she can't stand much of anything during
that time!" Janani shook her head with amusement at that thought. It
made Janani testy when her dragon was acting that way. "I wouldn't
have the time or patience to deal with training one myself."

Tavia chuckled. "I wouldn't either under normal circumstances, but for
this one I'm going to make the time." She shook her head still having
trouble believing what he'd done. "Janani, it's not just any flit egg
it's gold!"

Her eyes opened wider at that declaration. "A gold flit egg? Now that
must have taken some doing on U'kaiah's part!" While she wasn't all
that enthused about having a flit of her own, she couldn't help but be
excited for Tavia and a beautiful little gold. "Where is it now?" She
asked, "I'd love to see it!"

"It's in a jar in my weyr staying warm near a brazier." She smiled and
rose from her seat. "Sure! we can go now if you'd like."  She started
out the door.

"I'd _love_ to see it. Who can resist the sight of _any_ gold egg, no
matter how large or small it could be." She motioned for Tavia to lead
the way.

She quickly dodged through the doorway and walked up the stairs toward
her weyr. Once they got there she went to where the pot was next to
the brazier and picked it up wincing slightly at the heat.  She put it
up on the table and then pulled it open to reveal the not quite
hardened gold egg inside.

Janani's breath caught at the sight of the tiny golden egg resting
inside. It brought back a flood of memories of her time with
Angdelouth. "It's gold alright," she spoke almost reverently. "How
long do you think it will be before it hatches?" She had to admit she
wanted to meet the little golden queen already, though she knew it
would never compare to her own magnificent Angdeouth.

"U'kaiah thought in the next 3-5 days. But I'm not exactly sure so I'm
getting ready," she said with a smile and opened a dish on the table.
Inside were strips of meat and fish on ice. "I go down to the kitchens
for a fresh one each morning and night. They're keeping me supplied."

Janani smiled, wanting for a moment to reach out and touch the egg,
just as she'd wished to do the same when she first saw the golden eggs
that held her Angdelouth.

"I look forward to meeting the little queen when she does hatch. If
you ever need any...well, advice, on the queen's behavior, feel free
to come to me. I'm not sure that the little flits are anything like
their big cousins, but I hear there are lots of similarities."

"Thats what I've heard too. I guess they don't name themselves either
so I'm still trying to decide what to call her." She smiled softly at
the thought that this would be like a bit of practice for naming a
child.

"Oh," Janani replied, "I hadn't thought of that. Have you any names in
mind so far?" She realized how glad she was that Angdelouth had
already known her own name, for she couldn't imagine having to give
the majestic beauty a name herself.

"I'm finding it a bit difficult.," she admitted.  "Maybe I just need
to meet her first." A curious 'burrrup" of assent came from the other
side of her curtain. "I guess Sawauth agrees."  She smiled at the
other woman.
