R'enh

R'enh

After his late night swim they had come back to their weyr and though
Mnoranth didn't actually complain, R'enh could feel his discomfort in
his new couch. It was just too small.  There were so many things he
needed to put in place before the next Fall and he wanted to hit the
ground running so to speak.  But his lifemate was his foremost
concern.

So, once he was done with breakfast he asked around until he found the
Headwoman's office. He realized he was at the back of the line.

Vista Point's headwoman would have made him very aware of how much he
was putting her out with his request.  He knocked politely on her door.

"Come in," came Qorri's call as she bent down to pick up a hide that
had fallen to the floor. The Headwoman had sweet rolls and klah on
her desk along with some pretty confusing schedules.

"Hello?" he said as he came in. He knew he'd heard a voice call out
for him to come in, but he didn't see anyone.

Her head came up and she registered his knots. He was the new arrival.
"Can I help you?"

"Um Yes," he smiled. "I"m R'enh and I've just transferred here and was
assigned a visiting weyr last night. It's a bit crowded for Mnoranth
and he was uncomfortable. I was just wondering if you might have
something larger."

"And how big is your dragon?" Qorri asked, knowing there was some
variation.

"He's on the large side for a bronze," he said. He was actually one of
the largest ones R'enh had seen but he didn't really like to brag
about that.

"Do you have a preference as to how high or the side or view?" She
went searching for her list of available weyrs.

He was very relieved that she seemed so willing to help. "Thank you,
but we aren't too picky about that as long as it's big enough."

"Allright, there are three open that might work." She laid out the hide
and pointed. "Here, here, and here. Go check them out and come back
once you've decided."

"Thank you very much Headwoman," he called her by her title since she
hadn't actually offered her own name. She seemed quite busy and
distracted. "I'll be back shortly." He left the room quietly closing
the door behind him and referred to the hide to orient himself as he
took off for the tour. He didn't really mind it actually. He was a
solitary sort preferring to spend his time with friends, of which he
had none at Dolphin Cove.  "Yet," he corrected himself.

The first one was rather low and near where the queens were housed. He
imagined it was probably meant to house a junior goldrider.  He

called Mnoranth to him to test out the couch and he pronounced it
adequate. But the lighting was poor and it was close to the weyrling
barracks.  He could hear the squawks and voices floating up and shook

his head. "I don't think so."

The second was higher up the side of the inner bowl but out toward the
end of the horseshoe curve. The sun flooded the front and even touched
the dragon couch. Mnoranth immediately took to it. }:I can sun myself
right on my own ledge:{  R'enh laughed and leaned against the big guy.
"Do you think we did the right thing?" he asked. Mnoranth's big bronze
head lowered  and curved around, eyes whirling contentment. }:Yes, you
are already happier:{  "Funny, I didn't even realize I was unhappy."

He didn't even bother with looking at the third one. Mnoranth was
happy and had already laid himself out on his ledge to soak up the
warmth of Dolphin Cove.  **Small pleasures my friend** }:Indeed:{ came
the rumble of his lifemate's response.

He found his way back to the Headwoman's office and knocked before
reentering. He slid the chart back down in front of her on the desk.
"We'll take this one," he said tapping the hide.

She surveyed it and nodded. "What was your name again, bronzerider?"
Qorri pulled out her quill and dipped it in the ink, ready to add him to her
quarters list.

"R'enh," he said and spelled it for her.

She marked him down and nodded. "Will you need help moving your things?"
If he was smart, he wouldn't have completely unpacked yet, but Qorri could
send a drudge to help.

"No. Mnoranth can carry it over without a problem. But I'd appreciate it
if someone could come and clean in the next couple of days. I think
it's been empty for a little while." He'd seen a layer of dust and
thought perhaps he could use a new curtain but he could handle that
part himself.

"It'll be done before you move in. I'll not have that." Qorri frowned,
thinking about a drudge to dispatch. "Make a list of furniture that you
require and it'll be brought up from stores. From then on, you are asked
to keep your weyr clean and we'll send someone every sevenday to switch
out bedfurs and collect laundry."

"Can I get back to you on the list of furniture? I know there's a bed
but I was mostly concerned with Mnoranth's comfort." He smiled at his
own oversight. "Yes ma'am I like to keep a clean weyr."

"Aye send me the list. The basics are there such as a footlocker and the bed
platform." Qorri knew that he'd need a desk and chair at the very least with
glow baskets. Pillows and bedfurs went without saying.

"Thank you very much," he said rising. She seemed a very efficient
sort of person. "I have an interview shortly. Would it be convenient
for me to come back and collect those items in about a candlemark?"

"They'll be sent. At Dolphin Cove, we appreciate our bronzeriders." She
pulled a glass to her lips, sipped, and set it back down. "If you ever need
anything, please let one of my staffers know and it'll be taken care of."

"Right then," he figured he'd thanked her enough and slapped the arms
of his chair levering himself out of it "Much appreciated." He turned
and went back out of the door and toward the Weyrleader's office to
his appointment.
