It had been another strenuous wing training session but some of the
younger riders seemed to be coming along nicely. They weren't quite up
to speed on some of the more difficult formations but they were
getting to the proper levels and covering each other properly. He just
had to integrate the things they knew already with what the wing
needed as a whole.
He was deep in though and just putting things on his tray famished and
didn't see the person he almost rammed as he turned away from the
serving table. "Ooooh, sorry about that." He reached out to steady the
young greenrider.
"For the love of little green dragons!" Cortana had hopped back in an
attempt to evade a wayward elbow and began to lose her balance in the
overly crowded dining hall. Hands reached out to steady her, but her
klah sloshed out of her cup just the same, splashing out of the mug
and onto her arm and down the front of her tunic.
R'enh reached back over to the table for a cleaning cloth and held it
out. He did't quite feel right swiping at the dark liquid that now
stained her tunic. The light of humor lit his eyes even though he
struggled not to laugh.
"Here's a table." he said as one opened up close and he moved quickly
to claim it.
When Cortana saw the cloth, she grabbed it and began dabbing at her
damp tunic. At least it had stopped burning. Without really thinking,
she followed the male voice and moved to the vacant table. Setting her
klah down upon it and pulling out the chair to take her seat. She did
her best to mop up the rapidly cooling liquid. Once satisfied, she
lifted her gaze to the man sitting across the table from her.
Her ire quickly dissipated when she saw the striking features of the
handsome man before her. She went from a tunnel snake ready to strike
to a feline eying its next meal. "So," looking at his shoulder for
identification she saw he was a bronze rider. "How do you plan to make
this up to me, my Lord," she asked with a sly sultry smirk.
R'enh had seen the change from anger to predator and lifted a brow
before digging into his stew. "Oh," he said after swallowing the first
bite. "And what kind of expectations do you have greenrider?" He knew
she wasn't in his wing or he would have seen her in the meetings or in
the skies.
Cortana fluttered her lashes at him and leaned into make a suggestive
remark then paused. Her gaze fell to the table and she smiled
awkwardly as the realization of what she was doing came crashing down
on her shoulders. It had always been so easy to just fall into a
lascivious flirtation. Lure a rider to her bed and have a romp. But
what was it really accomplishing? Nothing more than a fleeting
pleasure. Wrapping her head around her epiphany, she caught a glimpse
of her nearly empty mug and then looked back up at the bronze rider.
"A fresh cup of klah would be an excellent start."
He watched her transform yet again and wondered idly if she was always
as changeable as the weather or if something else had set her off
before he spilled her klah. "Not a problem" he said pushing his
untasted cup over to her. He picked hers and dashed off the last bit
with a twinkle and rose. R'enh went back through the crowd and grabbed
a fresh cup already poured placing the empty on the tray. Then
reaching past two other riders grabbed a pair of fresh bubbly pies.
"Hot, hot, hot" he juggled them back to the table without spilling any
more klah and plopped one on her tray, the other on his. "How about a
fresh bubbly pie? Do you think that will help?"
His juggling of the hot pastries had made her crack a smile. Not every
day that she got to see a bronze rider play hot tuber. "Thank you,"
she said with an appreciative and amused smile. "That is very kind of
you." Cortana took a drink of the klah and poked at the bubbly pie,
creating some hole to allow the steam to escape before she attempted
to eat it. "I am Cortana," she said looking across the table at the
bronze rider.
"Nice to meet you Cortana," he grinned. "I'm R'enh. Sorry I've just
transfered over from Vista Point so I don't know many people yet." He
picked up his bread and spread it liberally with butter. "Which wing
are you in?" he asked before taking a giant bite.
"Welcome to Dolphin Cove," She responded with a smile then took another
sip of her klah. That would be one of the reasons she did not
recognize him. "I'm in Cyclone. And yourself?" Surly he was not part
of her wing. Cortana was certain she would have noticed him before
now.
"Hurricane." He picked up his own cup. "I'm still getting to know the
people in my wing. Meeting other riders that _aren't_ in my wing is
always a pleasure. Though I don't usually introduce myself by spilling
hot klah on them.?"
Cortana gave him an amused smirk. "I certainly hope not!" She gave a
little laugh as the image of a series of greetings where R'ehn tossed
klah on individuals he was meeting flashed through her mind. "I doubt
that would make many friends."
Friend was a new concept for her when it came to members of the
opposite sex. Truthfully, it was a new concept overall. For too long
she had been moving along with nothing but a string a aquaintences.
As she took a bite of the bubbly pie, she took another look the knots
upon his shoulder and saw that not only was he a bronzerider, but a
wing second. The man who sat before her could well become a Weyrleader
one day. Not a bad person to have as a friend...
