J'lor was quite happy to escort his new friend to the hatching. She
was different from so many in the Weyr and he wanted to take the time
she obviously needed to get to know her well. But he was dumbstuck
when she emerged from the changing room they'd provided.

He blinked and his mouth worked and still he couldn't think of the
appropriate thing to say. Instead he stood tall and escorted her to
the dance floor and when he finally held her in his arms he knew he
was the luckiest man here. "You look incredible," he whispered in her
ear as he eased her around the floor.

Other eyes followed her around the room. R'enh standing on the edge of
the floor sipping at his drink saw the very purple dress and the woman
poured into it. **Lucky bluerider.** He didn't recognize her but
then he hadn't been at Dolphin Cove long. He could swear he would have
remembered _that_ girl.

A light flush spread over Briata's cheeks, but it was more out of
pleasure than anything. "Thank you." She murmured in reply, allowing
the man to sweep her across the floor. Her feet moved lightly, with
hardly any effort, she fell into the dances. "You cut a rather
dashing figure yourself." She complimented in return. "I thank you
for bringing me. It was nice to not have to worry about a ride."

Yet another pair of eyes had been watching for that dark head, but
what he saw made his eyes widen and Y'gel stopped in his tracks. Of
course that caused the young man behind him to bump into his back and
spill is drinks. "Oh excuse me," Y'gel was rather a large road block
but when he looked back up again she'd whirled back into the crowd of
dancing couples. He walked around the edge of the dance floor trying
to spot her again.

She slipped from view, the crowd of people dancing covering her like a
veil. Then she was there again, and once more winked out of sight.
"Have you been to Dolphin Cove before?" Briata asked, trying to make
conversation with the bluerider. He probably had, but it would
hopefully prove to be a good opening.

He looked down into her eyes. "Not recently. I've always been at River
Bluff." As the harpers finished the tune they ended near the
refreshments and J'lor tucked her hand into his elbow fully aware of
many pairs of eyes on them. She looked like a Lady Holder in her
beautiful dress and his smile showed exactly how proud he was to have
her on his arm.

Y'gel had completely lost site of her and continued on with Janani and
the referesments for the Weyrleaders.

Briata didn't even notice Y'gel, there were so many people, so many
faces, so many colours that swirled around it almost made one dizzy.
Her escort deserved attention while he was with her. However, it
wasn't long before someone came up and asked if he could claim a
dance. Briata looked over to J'lor, asking softly, "Do you mind?"

He really did mind but said the politically correct thing when she
asked and bowed to the Dolphin Cove Wingsecond. "I'm J'lor," he
started. "This is Briata."

"A pleasure to meet you," he smiled at the River Bluff blue rider. "I
am R'enh," he said with a smile and held his hand out to lead her back
to the floor. "My Lady." He erred on the side of caution for she bore
herself like someone of importance.

"The title is kindly given, but not appropriate." Briata flashed
J'lor a smile, but then she turned to R'enh, her new partner even if
it was only temporary. She inclined her head to him. "A pleasure to
meet you as well, R'enh." When they gained access to the floor, she
eased into his embrace and allowed him to lead her into the dance.
"Did you enjoy the hatching?"

J'lor smiled back at her then turned to get them refreshments while she
danced.

R'enh "Ah, but anyone would think you a lady in that dress Briata."
The purple was stunning on her and she had moved with the grace of
training. He swept a bow and held out his arms for her to step into.
"I did enjoy the hatching," he said "but I think I"m enjoying the
dancing even more."

"You are very kind to say so." The compliment brought a bit more pink
into Briata's cheeks but she couldn't help but be pleased. This would
have been a dress she would have worn as a Lady Warder - if things had
turned out different. No, she wouldn't think about that. She had moved
on with her life. In multiple ways. "Yes, the dancing is lovely. I
don't get to do it as often as I would like." She moved easily with the
dragonrider, her steps light, airy, as if she floated rather than merely
danced. "So please, tell me more about yourself, Bronzerider R'enh."

"Bronzerider, wingsecond, recently arrived, need I say more?" He was
more interested in finding out about her. "Where are you from?" he
asked. Of course he'd recognized the River Bluff wingriders knots on
the bluerider but that didn't necessarily mean she was also with him.

"I was born and raised at Onyx Peak hold in the Garnet Valley lands."
Briata still missed her old home, but she just couldn't bear to leave the
Weyr - even after B'lamick's disappearance. "But now I call River Bluff
my home."

"Weyr life is a good life," he said. Then he swept her around into
some complex steps and ended with a spin out and back into his arms.
She was flawless and he smiled his appreciation. "You're a good
dancer," he added as the music ended and her escort came to claim her.

"It has been a pleasure," he said as he bowed over her hand and then
released her to the bluerider.

J'lor smiled as the bronzerider walked away and handed her a drink.
"Are you ready for some dinner," he asked offering her his arm.

"Certainly, I..." Briata was interrupted as another man approached before she could take J'lor's arm. The man was a holder by his knots and he lowered into a bow. "May I have this dance?" He asked and held out his own arm.

Briata looked to J'lor and, once given leave, took the holder's arm. "Of course." Perhaps she would get a chance to eat after this dance. She didn't get to dance often anymore, and she was finding that it was helping to lift her spirits. Yes, another dance. Then perhaps some food.
