With her hand on the older bronzerider's arm, the River Bluff
Weyrwoman decided it was time to get the official business out of the
way. She asked him to lead her to them. She was glad that everything
had gone well enough for N'vanik. He needed that. Still, deep down it
bothered her to watch him standing beside someone else, though she
realized it was how it had to be. "Let's go say hello."

Y'gel edged his way through the crowd surrounding the Dolphin Cove
Weyrleaders. When he got close he pulled Rhosyn in front of him so she
could greet them first but kept an arm around her waist protectively.

"Weyrwoman Rhosyn, so nice to see you." N'vanik gave her a look up and
down to let her know he appreciated the dress, but his gaze didn't
linger _too_ long. He wanted to appreciate that dress a whole lot
more, but he was supposed to be a proper host and Janani was standing
right next to him.

Janani had to try very hard to suppress the urge to chuckle the moment
she saw her fellow Weyrwoman. It looked as though Rhosyn was almost
trying _too_ hard to capture the attention of every male in the room.
**Let her have them if she's _that_ desperate.** Janani mused. Her own
dress, fashioned in Dolphin Cove
colors, was much simpler and to her tastes. The sleeveless gown was
held around her neck with a decorative neck piece. The same decoration
criss-crossed just above her abdomen leading into the skirt. Slits had
been cut along the sides to accentuate the extensive decoration and to
provide her with much needed air as they sat for the very warm and
often stifling hatching ceremony. Beneath that, her gown flowed from
her waist almost to her ankles. The material was light-weight and airy
and suited the occasion perfectly. She was by no means underdressed or
overdressed, but rather exuded a classic elegance and confidence about
her.

"Good day to you both," she said. "We are pleased you could both join
us." Janani hadn't missed the slightly longer than usual gaze N'vanik
had shot towards Rhosyn. She already knew of his interactions with the
other goldrider and truth be told, she didn't care either way, just so
long as he did his duty to her and the Weyr.

"On behalf of River Bluff and my Weyrleader who couldn't be here
today, we wanted to give our well wishes and congratulations to you
both. We are glad that Dolphin Cove is once again prospering and under
sound leadership. As before, we offer our help if you are ever in need
of it." Rhosyn's eyes had gone first to N'vanik, but she had turned
her attention to Janani. Despite the other goldrider's thoughts,
Rhosyn's intentions hadn't been to impress every man at the hatching,
but only one. She'd never have gone to so much trouble otherwise.

Her offer and wishes were sincere, even if her reasons weren't
completely dutiful. "Allow me to introduce my escort for the day,
Master Dragonhealer, Y'gel. He runs our program. I'm sure you know him
Janani."

"Sir," Y'gel acknowledged N'vanik with a polite smile. He hadn't
missed the look any more than Janani had. He turned his own admiring
gaze on the Dolphin Cove Weyrwoman. "Congratulations, on a marvelous
clutch." He really was impressed by the size of the clutch. Of course
his thoughts turned to Angledouth's health, but she had appeared just
fine at the hatching. He was certain the Dolphin Cove dragonhealer's
had things well in hand. "A pleasure to see you again," he smiled. He
suppressed the desire to reach for her fingers and give her his cheek
as he would have done if she were still the junior goldrider he'd
known.

"Y'gel," Janani greeted him warmly, "It is so very good to see you
again. I hope you've fared well." Janani reached for him, wrapped her
arms around his shoulders in a warm hug. "I've missed some of my old
friends," she whispered in his ear before releasing him and smiling to
the others.

"We are most pleased you both could be here, and we thank you for the
offer of help," Janani looked to N'vanik, knowing much of that would
be more up his alley. "Y'gel would you care to get a drink with me?
I'm parched and I'd love a moment to catch up before all the activity
really begins." She glanced back at N'vanik and Rhosyn with a sly
smile. She knew about their history and truth be told, she hoped
things would work out for them. For in her own heart, she longed to
find someone who might make her want to be with that one person alone.
Perhaps Rhosyn and N'vanik could find that special something. True,
she wouldn't mind if N'vanik paid some of that attention her way, but
he already had more than one interest in his life. Janani wouldn't
mind a dalliance now and again, but to find that one special someone
would mean she would want him for just herself alone.

"If you'll excuse us N'vanik, Rhosyn. Can we bring you both a drink as
I know this heat is making me parched?"

Y'gel's arms went around Janani in a brotherly response to her hug and
a big smile spread across his face in response to her whispered words.
He was more than willing to take her to the refreshment table and put
out his elbow for her hand. "With your permission My Lady," he said to
Rhosyn.

"Please. Some of the white wine." Rhosyn hated being hot, which was
another reason why she was enjoying her dress.

"Red wine for me, thanks." N'vanik smiled at Janani, glad that the
situation wasn't cause for jealousy.

Y'gel patted the fingers tucked into his arm feeling quite lucky to
escort not just one but two Weryrwomen on the same afternoon. "I'm
doing quite well," he said as they walked away toward the refreshment
tables. Crowds parted like magic when the Weyrwoman approached. He
selected a red for himself and sipped watching the dancers. He smiled
down at her. The dress was lovely and seemed to float on the slight
breeze. "You're looking lovely, Janani. It seems Dolphin Cove is
treating you well."

Janani nodded to the pair and then walked away with Y'gel. "Thank you,
Y'gel. I am quite happy here." She grinned to her friend from old.
"What about you? Eh? Escorting the new Weyrwoman? That's quite an
honor. Have you caught her eye then?"

He chuckled. "Oh that I very much doubt." He was well aware of all the
young riders vying for her attention. He tried very hard to see past
his illusions and as much as he might enjoy her company he was simply
a means to an end and knew it.

With the other two gone, Rhosyn turned and faced N'vanik. She was well
aware of the other eyes watching them. "It went fine and you look nice."

"You look gorgeous." N'vanik eyed her again, longer this time. "I
might think you're trying to impress someone."

"Maybe I am. Or maybe I'd just like to show people that I can be different."
She wouldn't be trapped in all that quiet elegance that was expected of her.

Y'gel smiled down on the lovely Janani and lifted the glasses in his
hands. "What do you say we deliver these. Then perhaps, you'll honor
me with a dance. It's been awhile since we've danced after one of your
hatchings."

"It would be my pleasure," Janani replied to Y'gel as she carried a
glass for her and N'vanik as well. As they neared she noted the two
were just as they'd left them. A momentary pang of jealousy struck,
but she quickly pushed it away. She'd never laid any sort of claim to
N'vanik and as she'd told him before, she had no intention of doing so
now. Yet, she did wish for someone that she felt connected to on a
different level. That was something she'd had very little of in her
life so far.

"Drinks for everyone," she remarked as they rejoined the group.

"Thanks," N'vanik said as he took his glass from Janani.

"And yours," he held out the cool glass of white Rhosyn had requested.
The glass was already frosting in the warm air. Unless he missed his
guess her lovely dress was being appreciated by the one it was
intended to impress. Of course he didn't let his mind wander any
further down that path but turned his attention to the Weyrleader. "To
a very fine clutch." He raised his glass.

Dwarfed against N'vanik, Rhosyn took the glass and sipped. It was good
quality wine. She raised it slightly at Y'gel's toasting.

Janani joined in the toast as well.

"To a fine clutch." N'vanik raised his glass.
