**Just breathe,** the petite blonde thought to herself as she stood
outside the Candidate's entryway to the Hatching Sands. **No matter
what happens today, nothing will be more embarrassing than passing out
on the Sands in front of everyone.**

She peered around at the other candidates, anxiously awaiting the cue
to enter the Hatching Sands. Before she knew it, they were surging
forth, a sea of white robes and awkward limbs. She walked quickly
across the Sands, trying to ignore the heat coming from them. She was
dimly aware of the fact that the Stands were filled with people, but
their noise was drowned out by the beating of her heart.

The Candidates quickly took their places as they'd been instructed, in
a loose semi-circle around the eggs. They were beginning to rock
gently, and the dragon's humming became louder and more intense. One
particular egg began shaking even quicker than it's fellows, and
Daishii felt the whole Hatching Sands hold their breath in
anticipation as the first crack appeared in it's shell.

Taking another deep, steadying breath, she smiled as the first dragon
broke it's shell, and quickly found it's lifemate. **There now, this
isn't so bad...** she thought to herself, beginning to relax.

Her eyes darted about from hatchlings, to the golden queen, to
candidates as the Hatching continued. Things were occurring far faster
then they ever had when she was merely watching the Hatchings, or at
least that was how it seemed to Daishii, at least. Her eyes stopped
wandering as a green dragon hatched from it's shell, and frantically
searched for it's lifemate.

She was dimply aware of the hushed murmurs as the hatchling's
movements became more frantic. "No...no.... don't go between!" Daishii
exclaimed, her voice coming as a hushed whisper.

As if hearing her, the hatching turned to face her, and walked
purposefully towards Daishii. "That's right, come over here little
one..." the girl said softly.

But Impression didn't come - or at least, if it did, it wasn't
anything like Daishii expected. Kisiloth's eyes seemed to focus on
Daishii, then unfocused, as she barrelled into the tiny girl, knocking
her over.

Daishii let out a little yelp as Kisiloth's snout collided with her
abdomen, forcing the wind out of her. She then fell limply to the
ground. **She doesn't want me! Oh Shards, she might kill me!** Daishii
thought, thinking back to her candidate lessons. Hatchlings would stop
at nothing to get to their lifemate - even if that meant clawing
someone to death for getting into the way.

Kisiloth was not impeded by Daishii's form, and she continued
wandering forward, creeling softly. Daishii cried out in pain as sharp
claws pierced the skin of her left arm and leg, gouging her almost to
the bone. Kisiloth looked down, her eyes whirling in fear at the
sound.

}:Daishii! Mine! Oh no I've _hurt_ you!:{ Kisiloth said, stumbling
backwards quickly and falling to her hindquarters.

Daishii wanted to stand but didn't have the ability to. Suddenly, she
knew - Kisiloth was hers, and no amount of pain in the world could
ruin this moment for her. "Oh Kisiloth, it's alright, you didn't mean
to harm me! I still love you, and you're still perfect, and we need to
get you fed!" All too soon it was interrupted though, as healers and
weyrlingstaff entered the Sands, and ran over to the newly Impressed
pair.

"We need to get you to the infirmary Cand...Weyrling..." One healer
said, and Daishii fought him off. Sure, her leg hurt, but truly, it
couldn't be that bad. The hunger pains from Kisiloth were far worse
than what she felt from her own body.

"No! She needs to be fed, she needs to be fed now!" Daishii screamed.
Her thoughts were muddled - there was the unfamiliar presence of a new
mind, in addition to the pain, and all the noise... she couldn't focus
on what she needed to focus on. She reached out with her good arm,
grabbing a few scraps of meat and thrusting them towards Kisiloth, who
ate them hungrily, despite her worry.

Meanwhile, the healers tried to pick her up, and pull her off of the
Sands. Daishii happened to look down, and saw a puddle of blood
forming around her. "Oh shards...." she said softly, her head
beginning to spin. She had never been good at handling the sight of
blood, certainly not her own.

One of the men nearby - the one with the bowl, Daishii figured out -
was trying to feed Kisiloth, but the little green was not having it.
}:No... mine... come back! It was so hard to find you!:{

"If we want to get her down to the infirmary, we'll need to bring the
Hatchling with her," one of the healers demanded. "Weyrling, tell her
she'll be okay. Tell her we need to pick her up so we can tend to
you."

Daishii nodded weakly. **He's right, Kisiloth. They need to take me to
the Infirmary. You can come too, I can feed you there. Just let the
nice man pick you up.**

}:Alright,:{ Kisiloth agreed, although her mental tone was skeptical.
}:I am terribly hungry.:{

"She's fine with someone picking her up," Daishii said, and the healer
quickly applied a tourniquet to her arm and leg. He then lifted her
up, and placed her carefully on a stretcher. Daishii winced. She felt
as though she was going to lose consciousness, until someone slapped
her across the face.

"None of that," the healer said. "If you pass out, Kisiloth could go
/between/. You need to stay awake, no matter what."

Daishii nodded weakly. **I love you Kisiloth, I'm not going anywhere
without you,** she comforted her new lifemate.

"Let's get you to the infirmary, numbweed will make it all better."
