The Alarm

Writers: Cali
Date Posted: 16th December 2005

Characters: Mosler, Trellyn
Description: Mosler finds out about Seori
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 9, day 24 of Turn 3
Notes: Follows "Fear"

With the storm coming up, Mosler was helping Trellyn haul the three person boats she had readied for an afternoon class up on shore. The dolphins had told him that the storm wasn't going to be bad, but one never knew for sure, the the little boats could easily be swamped if
the waves got high.

"You know, Tramlin is going to think I don't trust his sailing skills if this storm doesn't show up." Trellyn laughed as she lifted the front end of the little boat. Tramlin was an old seacrafter who had been teaching the new apprentices, with Trellyn, how to handle the small sailboats. They had originally scheduled this class for last week but there had supposedly been a storm approaching and they had cancelled. The storm had turned and all they received were clouds.

Mosler grinned as he lifted his end and they placed it on the rack. "As long as he blames you and not me!" Being the Hallsecond, he often had to hear the woes and complaints of the aging crafter, but he was great with the apprentices.

They had just placed the last of the boats on the rack when they heard the Alarm sequence played out on the Dolphin's Bell. "Go, I'll lash them down." Trellyn said quickly to Mosler who ran down the beach towards the bell. "And thanks for the help!" she called after him, probably in vain since he was already a dozen dragonlengths or more away and couldn't hear her. She hurried with the ropes and hoped that nothing too bad was happening.

Mosler saw a group talking on the beach before he reached the bell. Only slightly out of breath, thanks to a lifetime of long swims that kept him in shape, he asked, "I take it you all heard the alarm, what's going on?"

"It's Master Seori," Dorblet explained, his voice low and unsure, "She just collapsed when she was swimming. They took her to the healers a minute ago."

"I'm sure everything will be just fine," he reassured the group placing a hand on Dorblet's shoulder, "Could you go out to the bell and chime the Clear signal so everyone doesn't rush down here?" Dorblet nodded and Mosler gave his shoulder one last pat before he headed up the beach to the infirmary.

"Well, we've sent to Dolphin Cove Weyr for one of their masters to consult." the healer explained to Mosler.

Mosler looked at the closed door that hid one of his closest friends. "Do you know what's wrong with her?"

He sighed, "We're not sure yet. One of the dolphins said there was something wrong with her head, and her symptoms seem to indicate a stroke."

"Stroke?" Mosler repeated confused, "but she's so healthy."

"Strokes can happen to anyone, and like I said we're not sure yet, it could be something else entirely. That's why I called to the Weyr." the healer ran his fingers through his hair and turned to glimpse at the closed door. "I've got to get back in there, I'll send word when we know more."

The healer watched as Mosler moved to sit down in one of the chairs by the door. "It could be several hours before I have anything to report to you..."

"I'll wait."
