"She's beautiful," N'vanik said, smiling as he admired the little green.
}:Kisiloth,:{ Loseth told his rider with pride. He'd been naming every
hatchling as N'vanik went to meet them and their riders.
Daishii smiled up from where she lay in her cot, "Thank you,
Weyrleader," she said. "Sorry if I don't get up, the healer said that
I shouldn't move about any more than I have to until I get the
stitches out." She had been accidentally stumbled over by the confused
Kisiloth, who had inadvertently scratched her with her claws. While
the wounds weren't terrible bad, some of them had necessitated
stitches.
"Bit of excitement there. How bad are the scratches?" he asked.
"Not so bad," she said. "I have a Weyrlingstaff Assistant helping out
for the next few days until I can care for Kisiloth on my own. I think
she took it worse than I did. I thought they would never calm her
down."
"I can imagine that would stressful for the poor thing. I was worried
when she knocked you over." Sometimes that happened, but he hadn't
expected the hatchling to Impress the very girl she'd knocked over.
"Yes, it was all very strange. She looked at me and I thought she'd
chosen me, so I didn't bother to get out of the way. But then it was
like she changed her mind, and I couldn't get out of the way fast
enough. And then she changed her mind again... I sincerely hope that
she becomes more decisive in the coming months!" Daishii exclaimed.
"For your sake I hope so. Although greens have a certain ...
stereotype," he joked.
"Fortunately I have a while before I have to worry about any of that!"
Daishii said. "Shards, thinking about all that now, it seems like it's
turns away, but it's really not that long off at all, is it?"
"No. Some days will drag on, but most of your training will fly by.
You'll look back and wonder how she got so big so fast." N'vanik
remembered being able to carry Loseth.
"I really can't wait until she's a bit more maneuverable under her own
power. I certainly can't carry her about while I'm on crutches,"
Daishii said. "I hope that it doesn't set me behind in the Weyrling
classes though, it would be embarrassing not to graduate properly."
"If the scratches don't put you out for more than a sevenday or two,
you shouldn't fall behind. Injuries later in training are more likely
to put you behind," he said. "It's easier to catch up in the beginning
than at the end."
"Yeah, that's what the healer said. The scratches are deep, but they
managed to miss the major nerves, veins and muscles, so I suppose I
should be thanking Faranth for that. It should only be about two
sevendays, they are hoping," Daishii said. "I appreciate you coming to
visit me, Weyrleader."
"I like to talk to all my new weyrlings." He smiled.
"That's very nice of you," Daishii said. Especially because I would
assume that the Weyrleader has a very busy job. Is Loseth proud of his
clutch?"
"_Very_ proud." He reached out to the bronze, who was still gloating
on the Heights.
Daishii smiled. "That's good to hear, his hatchlings were all quite
lovely. How long has it been since you Impressed, if that's not too
personal a question to ask?"
"No, it's not," he said. Then he muttered, "Shards, I need to count."
It was a while ago, that was for sure. He mentally counted twice to be
sure before he said, "Seventeen Turns now."
"And do you still remember it like it was just yesterday?" Daishii
asked. She knew that she would never forget her Impression, but then
again, it had been slightly unorthodox. She wondered if all riders
remembered it so clearly.
"Yeah." A smile spread across his face.
The Weyrleader was nice, and Daishii hoped that she'd end up in his
wing when Kisiloth was older, "Do you have any tips for a newly
Imrpessed Weyrling? Anything they didn't tell you that would be useful
to know?"
"Enjoy it as much as you can, even the chores. And make friends. I
wasn't very good at that." If he could go back, he'd tell himself to
lighten up.
Daishii nodded, making notes of it all. "Yes, I'm doing my best to try
and meet people," she said. "And I think having Kisiloth will make it
a bit easier, because she seems to be somewhat on the chatty side."
N'vanik chuckled. "Already?"
"I think a lot of it is because other people are having to tend to
her. So it's not just me bonding with her. One of the Weyrlingstaff
mentioned that I'll need to be sure to spend time with her
strengthening our bond because of it. It's good though, hopefully it's
helping to get her socialized well." Daishii said with a smile.
He nodded. "Good to look on the bright side. And think of all the
chores you'll miss."
"I certainly won't miss those at all, I just hope that I can get my
strength back well enough in time to throw firestone sacks about,"
Daishii said.
"You'll be fine. The weyrlingstaff will make sure you don't fall behind."
Daishii smiled, "I feel better hearing that." She said.
Kisiloth sat up then, peering at the new arrival with interest. She
head butted him softly, }:Scratch!:{ She said to Daishii.
"She would like you to scratch her, she says," Daishii said with a
giggle. **You can't just demand that the Weyrleader scratch you!**
He smiled at the little green and bent down to scratch her head.
Kisiloth crooned with delight as the Weyrleader scratched her eye
ridges. }:He's good at this!:{ She said with excitement.
Daishii conveyed her dragon's sentiment with a giggle, "She likes how
you scratch her."
"I've had lots of practice." He scratched her a while longer. "It was
nice meeting both of you, but I've got to get back to the feast."
"Certainly," Daishii said. "Thanks again for visiting!"
