Pierka

She closed her eyes and stretched her arms before she walked knee deep
into the water. "Come on out of there," she called to her pretty
green. She pushed her hands into the water and ignored the sting in
her fingers. She'd been working on riding straps all day it seemed and
she was still a little clumsy with the tools so she'd just have to
deal with the injuries. Liddith emerged from the lake with a blue on
her heals water sluicing from their backs. She sighed, she couldn't
get enough of staring at her life mate, it never got old. "Well
hello," she called to the blue's rider.

"Hello, Pierka," X'ian replied, walking over to her. "Watch out!" he
warned just when Camyth splashed them. The blue was obviously
enjoying himself.

"Will he ever grow out of it?" the bluerider wondered, wiping water
from his face.

Pierka who'd been apprenticed at the Dolphin Hall before she came to
the Weyr was as comfortable in the water as she was out of it. So she
didn't shy from the shower. She just laughed and shook her head. "I
hope not." Then she grabbed her brush and started in on Liddith's
hide. "Oh, I"m so tired," she said. "It's been a long day."

"It has been. It almost like being with apprentice again, with some
extra chores. I never washed a dragon as an apprentice!" X'ian
replied. He scratched Camyth's knobs before dipping his brush to the
water and starting lather the sweetsand to his blue hide. It's
brilliant shade still amazed him.

"Oh I helped quite a few times," she replied. }: I like blue, Camyth
is fun.:{ Pierka grinned. "She says she likes blue," the small
greenrider said to X'ian. "He _is_ rather nice looking."

"Now you're making him proud," X'ian said when his blue buffed up his
chest. "Oh, yes, you were dolpineer, right? So you were living near
the weyr."

She just smiled and nodded at X'ian. "Well he is, you know." She
couldn't count the times she'd been scolded by the apprentice masters
at Dolphin Hall for coming up to the Weyr so much. In fact, it was one
of them who'd told her 'If you like dragons so much why don't you just
go and see if you can stand.' So she had.

"What did you do, you know, before," she asked.

"I'm a healer. I was a journeyman on his first assignment, ready to
marry and start a family," he said. "And look at me now!" he was
nearly pushed over by playful Camyth. The blue snorted some warm air
against his face.

Her eyes got round, "How did they search you?"

"The usual way. Searchrider went thru all the youngsters in the hold
within age 12 to 20 and picked out me and few more," X'ian replied.

"Wow," she said and thought for a moment while she finished scrubbing
green hide. "You can rinse now," she said to Liddith. Her eyes lit
with the love she felt for her lifemate and it flowed back to her ten
fold. "I just was standing on that hill overlooking the Weyrbowl when
they found me."

"A good thing too that they found you," X'ian grinned. He slapped
Camyth. **If I scrub any more of your hide, you'll blind me with your
dazzle. Go and join Liddith.**

She moved toward the bluerider and watched as the two young dragon's
played in the water. She giggled at their antics and just shook her
head. She wondered briefly if they realized they were brother and
sister then shook it off. Dragons didn't really think in that fashion.

"Do you have any brothers or sisters?"

"Plenty of both," X'ian said. "Hold-bred, remember," he grinned and
thumped his chest.

She grinned back, briefly wishing she could say the same, but then she
couldn't say she _didn't_ have them either. She truly didn't know.
"Hungry?" She turned back toward the dining caverns thinking she might
get a bite while Liddeth was playing.

"Like a hatchling," X'ian replied.
