Description: Qorri checks up on Cosani.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 5, day 6 of Turn 6
She had a small tray of things on one hand as she walked through the
Weyr. Qorri shrugged off some of the curious looks that followed her.
The headwoman came to a stop in front of a weyr, wondering if the
greenrider were there. "Cosani, open up."
Cosani opened her door and lifted an eyebrow when she saw who it was.
"Headwoman? Do you need something?"
"No, I thought you might though." She lifted up the tray, as if in explanation.
Her eyebrow stayed up. "You brought me treats?" Cosani said in a tone
that was half-hesitant, half-yearning.
"Well yes. Someone has to make sure you don't waste away to nothing with all
that greenrider work," Qorri admonished halfheartedly.
"I'm not wasting away." If anything she was getting bigger, taller, and
more muscled. "But I'll still take something." She grabbed a sweet
roll.
"Ah uh. And let me just see if you've been keeping your weyr clean."
Heading into the opening to set the tray down, Qorri surveyed the small
domain.
Cosani stamped down her annoyance at having someone just walk into her
weyr. "It's clean." Not spotless, but it wasn't messy.
Satisfied with what she could see, she put the tray down and began to set the
things on the table so she could take the empty tray with her. "Everything else
is going fine?"
Cosani shrugged. "Yeah, things are fine."
"Good. Ever since Meledei got hurt in that fall...well I'm glad you're not." She
knew as a greenrider, Cosani saw harder action than Meledei did. It
was the nature of things, but Qorri still worried.
"I'll be fine. Shalith is fast." Cosani took a bite of her roll.
"How is your wing?" She knew the girl was in K'hetah's wing. Qorri knew him
but not as well as the Weyrleader.
"It seems ok, although I don't have any other wing to compare it to.
Except the weyrling wing." Fighting Thread was scary, even if she
didn't like to admit it, but it was also nice to do something that
really mattered. She was helping to protect Pern which was way more
than anyone back at the hold ever thought she could do.
"I'm glad everything's worked out since you graduated." She adjusted the
pillows on the small sofa before stepping back. "Any lucky men running
around?"
Cosani swallowed. "Is that important?"
"No, I was just curious. With Elleth flying and all, I thought it
might have been
possible." Goldflights were the perfect excuse to insinuate yourself
near someone
you wanted to be with anyway.
"I don't need a gold flight to have sex." Cosani tried to keep a rein
on her temper. This was the Headwoman, after all.
"Well I know that. It just makes it more likely." Satisfied with the weyr,
she leaned against a chair.
"At the risk of being disrespectful or whatever I have to ask: are you
trying to be friendly, or nosy?" She could deal with the first but
Cosani didn't like the idea of the Headwoman poking around in her
business.
"It's not disrespectful." She understood a young woman's need for independence
well. "I tend to keep an eye on most of the young girls in the Weyr, but certain
young riders moreso. So I'd say both, if you call it that. I like to
make sure you're
all doing well and provide someone to talk to in case you don't feel comfortable
with your wingleaders and that."
"I'm fine," Cosani insisted.
"Well I'm glad. I'll leave you alone now, but it does seem you need some new
rugs for the floor. That one's ratty." Qorri wrinkled her nose in disgust.
Cosani looked down, considering it. "I guess if you want to give me a
new rug, I'm not going to complain."
"I'll have it delivered," she said offhandedly before she headed out
of the weyr.
"Cosani, if you ever do need anything, and I mean it, come tell me."
"Yeah, ok." Cosani didn't mean it though. She could take care of herself.
