Tavia

Tavia

She was close, at least that was what Vandor told her. U'kaiah had
come and spent a few days getting her quarters ready for their guest
and her friend Ranari was checking on her everyday eagerly awaiting
the arrival of her new charge.

Most of all, she was ready. She couldn't say she hadn't enjoyed this
time. It was so completely different from her normal routine. But in
her heart she was a dragonrider and meant to fly in a fighting wing.
She was ready to be done.

Qorri made her rounds, following behind the Weyrwoman. The Headwoman
had to make sure those were taken care of, providing the things the
healers could not. Entering Tavia's weyr, she announced herself afterwards.
Since the woman had gotten bigger, she had been making sure she had
what she needed fairly often, usually through a drudge. "Tavia, are you
decent?"

"Back here," she called from her sleeping area. She'd been busy
arranging the pillows and bedding for the baby's arrival. She felt
Glory's eyes on her and looked up to see them whirling at her from the
top of the curtain. She chuckled, the little flit seemed to watch her
every move these days almost as if she was waiting.

Coming to the back, she looked around to see if anything was missing or
needed. "Mmmm...are you short on anything?"

Tavia smiled. "I'm not really certain." She knew the baby would be
with her in her weyr only for a short month or two at the most before
it went to its foster mother and she was physically ready to return to
her duties. "I feel like I'm missing something."

"Well let's see." Qorri had never had her own, but she had fostered plenty
of children to know how much one needed. Going through the drawers, she
began to count. "You need more diapers. You do know how to clean them
though yes?"

"Oh right, how many more do you think?" She nodded knowing how to
clean them but wondering, not for the first time, if it could possibly
be as bad as mucking out after Sawauth when she was little.

}:But you know you love me mine, oh and I itch.:{

She turned her head toward the outer weyr with a chuckle. "Do you
think we could get some of the candidates to give Sawauth a bath? She
says she's itching."

"Oh for certain. If she wants to wait by the lake, I'll see about it as soon as I get back down." Qorri made up a mental tally. "I'd say at least a dozen more. And a few little small shirts to put the babe in. Thankfully with it being warm, you don't need much more than that."

"Thank you so much, she'll be waiting." She wanted to be able to do it
herself and knew that soon she'd be getting back into condition. She
smiled her appreciation for the advice on the baby clothes. "I did
mention that Ranari has volunteered for the foster mother. She and I
are great friends. I'm sorry I haven't had a chance to talk to you about it."

"That's fine, but the Weyrwoman has to approve all the fostermothers.
Has she yet?" Qorri could make the arrangements once Janani had given
the okay.

"Yes," said Tavia. "I had a few names for her and she approved my
preference." She smiled at the memory. "I talked to her about it last
sevenday when I was up there helping her with her hidework."

"Allright then, I'll be sure to get her taken care of and on track. She'll still have duties to perform, but there'll be time for her to care for the child." Qorri could make changes as needed, that wasn't a problem.

"Thank you so much Qorri." Tavia smiled at the gruff Headwoman. She
was all about business but her heart was in the right place when it
came to taking care of her charges. The greenrider was very appreciative
of Qorri checking up on her.

"If there's anything needed, you know how to get me. I'll leave you be for
now so I can go and find someone to hunt up the nappies and everything.
We'll get them sent up. Get some rest." Qorri had other duties to get to,
but she wanted the greenrider to understand all she had to do was ask.
