Parale had been working hard now that she had a few commissions to do.
She had been helping the Steward and raising her girls. Finally, she
was beginning to feel like Sunstone was home, despite twinges for
Garnet Valley from time to time. Waking up, she found her hands were
feeling sore. Frowning, she went to find the woman everyone said could
help.
Parme was set up in her cot working on a special mix of herbal tea for
one of the mason crafters, humming softly to herself as she weighed
and mixed the ingredients. She looked up for a moment when Willow got
up from her basket and made her way out of the room, but then shrugged
and continued working. "Just don't come back pregnant again, will
you?" she called out after the feline.
Parale came up to the door of the cothold and shuffled the sand from
her feet. She had her basket with her and she shifted it so she could
knock, not knowing if the woman was home. "Hello?"
Parme was not surprised to hear someone at her door, people usually
walked in and out of her workplace, be it for her herbal medicines or
for some friendly advice. "In here, come right in!" she thus called
out, continuing with her mixing and weighing of ingredients.
Parale stepped gingerly inside, looking around carefully as she
entered. Following the sound of the woman's voice, she made her way to
where Parme was working. "Good day to you. I was wondering if you
might have a little cream for soreness? Perhaps that would help with
dry skin too?"
"Oh, hello, dear," Parme said with a smile, looking up at the
dark-haired woman as she came into the room. "You've certainly come to
the right place. Have a seat." For a moment, Parme turned back to her
work as if Parale wasn't there, finishing up, before looking back at
her visitor again. "And what might your name be? I should be able to
find something to help you. Where are you sore exactly and what caused
it?"
Parale parked herself up on the stool and concentrated on the woman
and her questions. "My name is Parale, wife to Ioven. He's a smith. I
came from Garnet Valley." Her accent likely gave that away, but she
said so anyway. "It's mainly my hands. I work a lot with them in dyes
and liquids, along with soapsand so they get dry and sore from time to
time."
"Ahh, yes, the woman from Garnet Valley," Parme said with a smile. She
always kept her ears open for interesting bits of news. "How are your
girls doing?" As she chatted, the older woman reached over the table
for Parale's hands. "Let me see that for a moment dear," she said with
a kind smile.
"They're fine since they've come back to their friends." She wondered
if the lady had heard about her clothes or if it was something else.
She was forever being talked about because of her clothes. Parale
offered her hands up curiously.
Taking the woman's hands in hers, Parme let her fingers trace the dry
skin softly, before nodding and letting go again. "I have just what
you need, love," Parme said with a smile as she got up. Rummaging
through a cabinet to the side of the room, she finally came up with a
small jar and presented it to Parale. "Try a bit on undamaged skin
first, sometimes people get reactions to this cream. Can I get you
some tea while you wait?"
"Oh no, I'm fine. What can I do for you in return?" She didn't have
much for marks, but she could barter well enough as most did.
"Good, try something on the inside of your arm then, I'll be able to
see how you react in a short while." The older woman said as she put
the jar down in front of Parale. "As for something in return, I hear
you're the lady to come to for clothes and such? My two girls have
been begging me for something nice for the upcoming celebrations. Do
you have any fancy scarves?"
"Oh for certain. They can come by and see what pricks their fancy. I
have several colors and thicknesses." Parale tended to prefer wearing
them on her own head especially with the sun, it kept her scalp from
getting burned. She took some of the mixture and rubbed it gingerly on
her skin.
"Excellent," Parme said with a smile, obviously pleased with the deal.
While she waited to see if Parale's skin reacted to the cream, she
continued on the tea mix she'd been working on when Parale came to her
cot. "Are you excited about the upcoming celebrations, dear?" she
asked conversationally.
"Oh aye it'll be interesting to see everyone. The steward asked me to
make some pennants for the boat races so that has kept me busy." She
didn't want to let the man down and would make sure they were
presentable for the Hold.
"That is wonderful," Parme said with a smile. "All those visitors,
dragonriders, even," the older woman said thoughtfully. "It is going
to be the biggest event I've ever witnessed, I think. What about you,
honey?" As she chatted on, Parme set aside her work again and moved
over to Parale. "That seems to be doing fine," she said, more to
herself than to the other woman. "It seems you're good to go. You can
use this cream to alleviate the soreness. It will moisturize your skin
and if you apply it daily, after work, you should notice your skin
easing up pretty soon."
"Thank you. You can come by to pick out which scarves you want
anytime." She was usually in her quarters except during chore and
errand time if the girls didn't want to go outside. Parale gathered up
her basket and prepared to go.
"Thank you, dear, I'll swing my with the girls sometime soon," Parme
said with a nod, getting up to let the woman out. "And if you have any
more problems, don't hesitate to come back. That's what I'm here for."
With that she sent Parale on her way again, pleased to have helped yet
another one of her fellow residents.
