Gaiya walked into the kitchen, her eyes tired and her stomach growling.
"Remind me to never have children," she grunted at the candidate tending the fire.
Bayadrin smield a wane smile. "I'm sure they make up for moments like this." He moved over to pour her a cup of Klah. He handed it to her and went back to his tending. "Children have a way of driving you mad and then smiling at you just so to remind you why you loveed them in the first place." He thought of the children he had know and left behind back home. Most of them had been children of the few friends he had.
"That is true." Gaiya nodded gravely. "Except when they get sick all over your sofa. For some reason, they just don't look so cute after that."
"That is true." He moved over to another chore. The fire was under control so he started in on a pile of tubers. "But then they look at you with those trusting eyes and those same eyes are every adults downfall."
He obviously had not had to deal with older children yet... "I suppose. You have much experience with children?"
"A little. I used to spend time with the children at the smith hall." He smiled sadly. "I wasn't good at smithing. When my mother died I took over taking care of the home. The kids loved to come visit when their teachings and chores were done."
"I played with the kids in my freetime too, before I was a foster mother. I still play with them when I have time." Although playing with Ar'lis was even more fun lately...
"Time is the one thing people seem to have so little of these days. So, many things demand our attention , that the little things go unnoticed or unappreciated." He smiled saddly. She looked at the candidate out of the corner of her eye. "Are you felling a bit unappreciated?" "Me? No, I have just seen so many come in here. People tend to talk freely when they don't think you will talk. I have spent many an evening listening to the woes of others. I try to remind them of the good stuff.
Like a child's smile or how the sun glistens on a newly washed dragons hide. Those are the things that go unnoticed most of the time. The things people forget when the bad stuff falls in there lap." He smiled his soft smile as he offered her a small pastry. Gaiya blinked a few times as she took the pastry warily. Just how much sugar did he put into his goodies? "Well, I _do_ appreciate those things too..." **I think...**
"Good, never let your day, no matter how bad, make you forget the little things." "I try," Gaiya nodded. She didn't think she forgot the little things. Did she?
"I'm sorry I must sound like a crazy man. I'll leave you be." He turned away with a sigh. Why did he have to say all that. Now, she proubably thought he was crazy.
"No no," she reassured him. "Not crazy. Just... thoughtful. You seem to think deeply about things is all."
"Perhaps I spend too time thinking on things as I cook. I don't get much time to talk to people here."
"Really? I would have thought that there were many opportunities to speak to the people who come in like me. Maybe you just don't work at the right time."
"I usually am working on something and people usualy only come in here to get food and leave. Most people don't sit and talk."
"You're a busy boy then," Gaiya said with a sympathetic smile. "I hope you can take some time to meet some of the people who come through her more often. Some of us are nice."
"I look forward to getting to know people. I am afriad I have kept you here to long. I am most sorry." He smiled.
