Cyradis

Cyradis

Her day was zipping right along but she had started very early and was
beginning to feel a bit hungry. The meeting with the Weyrleader had
gone well. At least that was what she thought. She walked out of the
office and stood there a moment trying to gain her bearings.

Qorri had been waiting. The headwoman couldn't help but be curious.
"Good day, goldrider." She stepped forward and nodded. "I'm Qorri, the
Headwoman here. Welcome to Dolphin Cove."

Cyradis' smile was instant. She acknowledged the Headwoman with a
graceful nod of her head. "Well met Qorri and thank you for the
welcome." She was already feeling quite welcome with all the help
she'd been receiving.

"I can take you to your weyr now if you wish. Are you hungry or will you
need help with unpacking or anything?" She had a candidate girl that could
help the goldrider if that was the case.

"Oh yes to all three and thank you," she smiled at the other woman.
"Perhaps a strong back would be good as well. I've some crates that
won't be easy to lift." They started to walk and Cyradis followed Qorri's
lead.

"When I got here I went in immediately to meet with the Weyrleader. I
had to leave poor Panitath in the bowl and asked some of the people
there to help unload her. Luckily she's normally quite friendly."

"We'll get it taken care of, don't you worry." Qorri made a mental note
to track down a male to handle the heavies. As they went through the Weyr,
she pointed out the maps and signs in the tunnels. "There are route pointers every so far so it's hard to get lost."

Of course it didn't take long to reach the goldriders' weyrs. Qorri
walked inside the one that used to be Janani's before she moved into
Traelyn's. "This one is yours. Our junior goldrider Meledei is over
there and the Weyrwoman's is the one right off the hatching grounds."
The place was clean. Everything but the basic furniture was gone. "I thought you would want to use your own things or pick out the sort decorative items you liked, so I left those out. You're more than welcome to come look through stores when you're ready."

She walked with the other woman through the corridors toward the
goldriders' weyrs. The one Qorri showed her was nice and spacious. Of
course she went first to check out the dragon couch to make sure it would be big enough and was satisfied. "Do I have my own pool," she called as
she came back. She could see for herself there was a lower general
level of technology than she was accustomed to by the glow baskets
everywhere. To tell the truth she rather preferred the glows to harsh
artificial light anyway.

"Aye, it's off that doorway there." Gesturing to the door that connected to
the bedchamber, Qorri nodded. The headwoman also watched her quietly,
sizing her up. It would be good to have an older goldrider in the Weyr.
**Will this one fit in or is she going to disrupt things? Just what is
she like?** She couldn't help but be curious of course.

"A drudge will come up every few days to see to your needs. If you need
new linens or anything, all you have to do is tell them. They'll also remove the laundry." Cyradis would have to get settled before all of this filtered into her brain, but that was expected.

"I'm sure you have it all well arranged," nodded the goldrider. She
crossed to the door Qorri had indicated and smiled. "It looks lovely."
She knew from long experience to trust the arrangements a Headwoman
had with her staff.

"We serve three meals a day in the Dining Cavern, but there is always some
sort of bread, stew, and klah on." Qorri knew there were times people would
arrive from others Weyrs at odd times. "Did the Weyrleader give you a map?"

"No," she said. "But thank you for pointing out the indicators in the
corridors. Besides," she smiled. "I'm not afraid to ask for directions."

}:Where are you?:{

**In your weyr. I'll have your things unpacked as soon as the boxes
are delivered.**

}:I will sun on the heights. There are interesting bronzes here.:{

Cyradis laughed. "I guess they've finished unloading Panitath. She's
discovered some interesting bronzes." She could feel the flush of
pleasure as some of them began vying for her lifemate's attention.

"Oh," she said as she remembered another thing she wanted to discuss
with the headwoman. "I'll be meeting with Janani later, but I intend
to bring my youngest daughter here and possibly the 12 turn one as
well. Kielya is 7 and will need a foster mother. Naradis on the other
hand has professed her desire to Stand and wants to become a candidate."

Considering that, she knew it would be up to Janani as far as that went,
though Qorri would provide assistance. "The Weyrwoman has to approve
fosters, but I can offer several suggestions as to suitable women. We have
quite a few right now and we can always use good candidates." That would
be up to Janani as well, though the headwoman didn't think there would be
a problem.

"Of course, that goes without saying. But I appreciate your guidance.
Kielya has had a difficult turn losing her da." She smiled at the
Headwoman. She obviously took her job seriously and that was a good
sign for the management of the lower caverns.

"Aye it can be hard on the young ones." Qorri knew it happened often in a Weyr but that still didn't make it easier on the young. That was also why it was so important for them to have fosterparents-someone to trust and love them when their real parents were gone. "I'll leave you to it then though you can find me easily if you need anything. I'm sure we'll talk later." The headwoman nodded to Cyradis and slowly made her way out of the weyr, leaving the new goldrider to her thoughts.

"Thank you Qorri. I'm sure I'll need something or other and I'll find
you if need be." She took another turn about the generous sized weyr
when the woman had gone. It was a nice space and she knew she'd settle
in once she had a chance to place some of her things. She walked to the outer weyr and beyond to the ledge that stretched to other goldrider weyrs in both directions.

The view of the ocean beyond the Weyrbowl was spectacular. She breathed in the smell of the sea and smiled. She felt her shoulders relax as the tension she'd been living with for more than a turn seemed to melt away in the sun of Dolphin Cove.

She looked up on the heights, finding the bright gold of her lifemate
without difficulty.

**Come see your new weyr.**

Broad wings unfurled and she watched Panitath sail across the bowl to
touch down lightly on the ledge. The big head snaked around to look and
then peer at her rider.

}:You are happier:{

**Yes, I am.**
