N'vanik

N'vanik

I'lan raised his hand and knocked on the Weyeleader's office door. "You
wanted to see me Sir?"

"Yes. Have a seat I'lan," N'vanik said, shifting a few hides on his
desk. "Don't worry, it's just an evaluation."

For some that would be enough to give them a case of nerves worse than
threadfall could induce. For others, they could take it in their stride.
I'lan was somewhere in the middle. the young bronzerider moved forward, and
took the indicated seat.

"Sir," he said, indicating he was ready.

"I've heard very little negative about you, and your performance in
drills and Fall is consistent." N'vanik said, skimming the hide in
front of him.

"Thank you Sir," a smile almost broke out on the young man's face. "I hoped
I was doing alright."

"You're doing just fine. Do you have any ambitions for being more than
just a wingrider?"

"One day, I think I'd like to try and do more, Wingsecond maybe."

N'vanik nodded. "I can see you making Wingsecond in a few turns."

"I think it will take time Sir, both of us, we're still young."

"Oh, I know, but you're steady and you've got a good head on your
shoulders. Not to make you nervous, but me and the other Wingleaders
have our eyes on you. When you're a little older and have some more
experience, someone might snatch you away from me and make you their
'Second." N'vanik smiled and hoped the praise wouldn't go to the boy's
head too much.

I'lan's eyes widened a little, people had been watching him and Naath?
"Really? I didn't know that people were watching us."

The Weyrleader chuckled. "You're a bronze pair. People are definitely
watching."

"We'll just have to keep doing our best then."

"I trust you will." He leaned back a little. "Is there anything you'd
like to talk about? About the Wing or anything else?"

The younger bronzerider thought for a moment or two. They liked their wing,
their weyr was just the right size for him, Naath and Bubbly, there was
nothing to worry them at the moment. "I can't think of anything Sir."

"Alright then. Keep up the good work."

"Thank you Sir." I'lan made a move to get to his feet. "Is that all?"

The Weyrleader nodded. "See you at drills."

"Sir," he said with a nod.
