Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 6, day 2 of Turn 6

"Meledei, are you in there? We have got to sit down and talk about
this!" Qorri had list upon list but if she didn't know what the
goldrider wanted, she couldn't do squat. This was her first hatching
and she did want it to be a good one.

"I'm here!" Meledei called out cheerfully as she peeked around a case
of hides. She grinned at the headwoman then came fully into view, a
pile of work in her arms. "Sure. Um, what are we talking about?"

"The hatching feast, for Faranth's sake. I have to know what you want."
Sure Qorri could wing it, but it was customary for the goldriders to
have input.

"Herdbeast. Steak. Other than that, I'm good." Meledei grinned. She
really wasn't picky, but she did like her red meat. "Oh, medium rare
for me, if you please." But Qorri already knew that.

"All right Meledei, I'm going to give you options. Just say yes or no."
Sitting down, she pulled out her lists. "Wine, water, juice, klah?"

Meledei plopped into a chair next to Qorri and nodded. "Yes, yes, yes,
and yes." She giggled. "You know, whatever you do will be wonderful.
You're the perfect headwoman so I really am not concerned about it."

"You say that now, but it's your first hatching and later I don't want
you think about something you forgot." She sighed, rolling her eyes
before she continued. "Herdbeast-yes, porcine, ovine, wherry, or
poultry?"

"Yes, yes, yes, and yes." Meledei grinned. This was a party! Why not
have a little of everything. Different people had different tastes.
"Have you picked out a dress for the hatching feast yet?"

"Honestly I only have a few I switch out. It's bothersome having
something made." She shrugged, trying not to think about it. "I end up
working most of the time anyway with all of our guests." Looking at
their choices for fruits, she was thankful they were in the South.
"Citron, redfruit, grapes.."

"Yes, yes, yes." Meledei nods in agreement as each fruit is
mentioned. "Oh, come on Qorri, it's my _first_ hatching with Elleth!
That doesn't happen everyday! Or even every Turn!"

"No and that's why I am trying to work my buns off to ensure it'll
make you happy." She sighed before looking back at Meledei. "I
just don't see the point in getting some fancy pancy getup only
to get whatever spilled on it which inevitably happens."

"Whatever you do will be great and you shouldn't be stuck in the
kitchens _all_ night. No one should!" Meledei paused and tapped a
finger against her chin. "In fact, if you could make sure that
everyone who is working that night has a chance to enjoy themselves,
that would make me the most happy."

Shells, now she had to rotate staff. Sighing and rubbing her neck, she
looked back down at her list. "There will be harpers for the music.
Dessert?"

"Lots of fruit. And anything else you think might be good. Oh
definitely bubbly pies." Meledei tried to be a _little_ more helpful.
"If you want, maybe we could work on scheduling the help together so
that you don't have to handle it all on your own."

"You'll be busy enough soon. I can manage. Not like I haven't done
it before." She made a short list of possible desserts. "What about
candy?" That would be different.

"Sure, candy is always enjoyed." Meledei had a feeling she was going
to be on a sugar buzz at Elleth's hatching feast. Well it wasn't
something that happened often, so she was just going to enjoy herself.
"Any other thoughts?"

"Hmm..what about decorations? Do you want to do something different?"
Now that was something Qorri could make unique.

"Do you have any suggestions?" Meledei queried, placing her chin on
her hand. "I like purple and green." She mentioned - of course, those
were the colors of what she was going to _wear_.

"Well it depends if you want a theme or not." Oh she was thinking now.

"Well, I could show you my dress if you want to see the colors,"
Meledei suggested. "And the earrings R'enh got me. They're _so_
pretty. Maybe that would help? As for a theme...I don't know. Pick
something happy! Something related to Dolphin Cove."

"The most obvious thing would be something tropical or beachy. We
could do something personal to you, though. Meledei, what's something
that's your favorite?" Qorri thought about it, wondering.

"You're my favorite headwoman." Meledei grinned broadly. "Um. Well,
I like to read and I love music." It wasn't much of a suggestion,
though. "I like to travel, visit other places when I can." Usually on
rest days. "Not helping huh?"

"What do you read about?" Qorri pursued, thinking that could easily
bring something onto the table.

"Oh lots of stuff. History, stories by the harpers." Meledei
shrugged. "I like to read about most things. Sometimes it's
interesting to read about the lives of those who lived before us, in
Hold and Weyr."

"Well that really didn't help either. Hrmph.." Racking her brain, she
tried to think of what she could do. "Well maybe we'll just serve the
food and put out some tropical decorations. That'll be easy enough."

"Sorry, I guess I'm just not that interesting a person!" Meledei
giggled. "I'm sure whatever you do will be wonderful." She stood and
saluted. "I should get back to work. Thanks for everything Qorri."

"Ah pffhh... you're welcome." The headwoman headed out and went
to work. She didn't have much time to get this together. "I better get
a big fat thank you after this is over, miss goldrider!"
