Description: Qorri sees the woodcrafter about fixing some cabinets.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 6, day 13 of Turn 6
Walking through the back of the kitchens, Qorri once again looked at
the awful cabinets. Some of the hinges were loose, the wood was rotting
due to the moisture at Dolphin Cove and she just wanted them replaced.
She'd asked the woodsmith to come and have a look at them.
"Qorri, I'm here!" Triston called out as he stepped into the kitchens
and smiled at the headwoman. He'd brought a small tool box. It didn't
contain much, mainly stuff for preparations and what not. He stopped
before the cabinets. "Ah, are these the offenders?"
"Aye, a mess for sure. I can't even use them now since they don't keep
out the vermin." Disgusted by the conditions, she turned to him for his
suggestions. "I'm pretty sure we'll just need a complete replacement.
The wood isn't salvageable right?"
Triston chuckled and moved forward to run his hand along the wood and
get a better look. "Certain parts of it might be salvageable for
smaller projects, but definitely not for cabinets. Might as well scrap
it all and build new ones."
"Mmm.. what wood do we have now? I can't remember if there was oak,
skybroom, or what?" Qorri hadn't looked in awhile since they hadn't had
very many construction projects lately.
"We've got some oak and teak." Triston stepped back and shook his
head. "Better stuff than what this is made of. It's going to take a
bit to replace. Have to tear these down, and rebuild the others here.
Do you want any sort of embellishment or simply functional?
"Functional is good, but the tops need to be sealed definitely."
Splinters and other awful things had a habit of coming up and being
bothersome otherwise. "I know a few candidates who would _love_ the
chance to tear up something."
"Get a bunch of them here and it will take a lot less time." Triston
nodded. "And don't worry, sealed is easy and it will be sanded and
stained. My work is top quality."
"Naturally." Looking at the mess again, she thought about it. "What
sort of stain? Are there choices?"
"Different shades of brown, mainly. Anything from a natural look to
almost red and anything in between." Triston shrugged. "I have
samples you can come look at if you like."
"Aye that'd be nice." She thought about it a little. Qorri didn't like
picking fabrics, but woodstain she could do.
"Just come by later today and I'll show you the samples." Triston
picked up the tool box which hadn't been needed, but one never knew.
"Thank you so much. I'll do that and let me know if there's anything you
need." She trusted the man and knew it would be easy to watch his
progress.
"See you later." Triston nodded and then turned to head off. He had
other things to take care of too!
