Description: Parale goes to see Parme for some help when she doesn't feel well.
Location: Sunstone Seahold
Date: month 6, day 12 of Turn 6
She was sitting in the chair with her head between her legs until the
feeling passed. Parale didn?t make a noise and her eyes were shut. It
felt like the room was moving. Finally, she settled and she could
bring her head back slowly up. Her eyes were still closed, though. It
was some time before she opened them.
**Faranth, that was awful.** Getting up, Parale finished putting away
the dishes. Frowning, her eyes saw a chip in one of them. It wasn?t
bad, but that was a disappointment. She wiped her hands against her
apron before she turned and headed into her workroom. It was a couple
candlemarks before she felt the feeling again. Miserable, Parale spent
some time at the latrine before she headed over to see Parme. Maybe
she?d know what to do about this mess.
Parme was in her workplace, going over her administration carefully.
She liked to keep good record of everything she sold, bartered and
spent her marks on, so quite a bit of time went in to that. It was
important to her, though, because her stock was her livelihood.
Parale knocked then stuck her head in. "Parme?" She looked around but
didn't see anyone in the front rooms.
"Parale?" Parme called out as she heard a familiar voice. "I'm in the
workplace, dear, come on in!" She got up from her seat to meet the
other woman halfway.
Heading in, she gritted her teeth, hoping the mess didn't come back.
Even though she had washed it with water, her mouth still had a bad
aftertaste. "I am so dizzy it isn't even funny and I just don't
understand it."
"Ah, poor thing, have a seat," Parme said as she coaxed her friend to
a comfortable chair. "Are you just dizzy? Or are you nauseous too?
Have a headache?"
"Aye, all of that. Breakfast went down the latrine." She groaned,
trying not to think about food, not really. She didn't have those
awful headaches that made people sick. This was a new thing for her.
"Let me fix you a cup of herbal tea to ease your stomach a bit," Parme
said, getting up instantly to take care of that. "When did it start?"
"After breakfast when I was trying to get some work done on the loom."
Frowning, she cursed her stomach for making it impossible to do
anything just about. This was no way to run a house.
"What did you have for breakfast?" Parme asked as she put on the water
for her tea. "Or did you eat anything odd last night?" She already had
her suspicions about what was really going on, but she wanted to cover
her bases.
"Wherry eggs, bacon, toast.." She shrugged. It was the usual stuff.
Maybe the eggs were bad. She narrowed her eyes, reminding herself to
check. "Last night was fish casserole."
"Hmm..." Parme considered this for a moment. The chance of those eggs
being off without Parale noticing didn't seem too big to her. "And, if
you don't mind me asking, when was your last monthly?"
"My last what?" Her eyebrow raised as she thought she heard what Parme
had said but she wasn't so sure.
"Your monthly bleeding," Parme said as she poured the now boiled water
over the herbs for Parale's tea.
"Ohhh...ohh....uhh...a month....a month and a half or so ago?" She was
irregular sometimes so that wasn't really anything to be worried
about, or so she thought. Her mother had said some girls were just
that way.
"Are you normally irregular?" Parme asked gently. "Because what you
are describing sounds an awful lot like morning sickness, dear."
"Aye I'm normally irregular. Always been." **Morning sickness? But I
don't have it in the morning. Sometimes it's at night as well.** She
looked back at Parme with a serious look on her face. With things as
they were, she didn't know if it would be a good time for a baby
anyway. The poor thing would be dropped between two parents who hated
each other.
"Alright, well, then there is no reason to assume anything just yet,"
Parme said as she served the tea. "But it might just be that you're
pregnant. Have your breasts been sore or showing discoloration or
enlargement?"
"Discoloration?" This was beginning to worry her. She had no idea what
that meant. The conversation was beginning to panic Parale.
"It's one of the first signs of pregnancy," Parme explained calmly.
"With some women, their nipples get darker pretty early on. It's
simply because the body is preparing for breastfeeding, nothing to
worry about."
"Oh well no-none of that." The idea of that struck her as odd, but she
shrugged it aside.
"Alright," Parme nodded thoughtfully. "Well, I can give you more of
this tea to take home at least. Keep an eye on things and if you
notice any other symptoms, or of things get worse, we'll see what else
we can think of."
"Thank you. I think I'm going to go back and see if I can get dinner
taken care of before everyone gets home and lay down." Parale had been
through the ringer and she just felt like curling up.
"That sounds like a plan, dear," Parme said with a nod as she got up
to get Parale a bag of that tea. "If you need anything, just let me
know, alright?"
"Sure will," she agreed before taking the bag and disappearing back in
the direction of her quarters.
