Oria

Oria

}:There she is,:{ stated Degrorth.

**Who?** asked her rider.

}:The one I found.:{ There was a distinct note of pride in the green's tone. She was not above bragging a little that she could sense something that might mean a person was a candidate.

**You didn't do it alone,** replied Oria, she still went out with another, more experienced rider on search. **Saryeth agreed with you.**

}:She did, too.:{

The girl saw Oria and her green and ran over to say hello, "Hey you two!" She slowed to a walk and aproached the green and started scratching her eyeridges. "Back from Search again?" Kirra inquired. She liked the Searchrider. She had been very kind and understanding. It had really helped Kirranna keep her calm when telling er family the good and yet sad news.

"No, just hunting," replied Oria, "Degrorth was hungry."

"Oh, well I don't want to keep your green form her supper..." Kirra had been told that dragons get grumpy and agitated if they are kept from eating, and Kirra didn't want to know what a grumpy and agitated dragon was like. She wished she could talk to the rider though. She had been having a hard time making friends with her peers and could use some one to talk to.

"She's already eaten," replied Oria with a laugh. "She won't need to eat again for a few days. Wish I could do that sometimes."

"Yeah that would be useful wouldn't it?" She smiled and looked at the rider and sighed. "Oria?"

"That's right," replied the young rider. "Kirranna, isn't it?"

"What? Oh, yeah. Actually I was wondering if I could ask you a semi personal question."

"Of course," was the automatic reply. But Oria was looking at the girl, curious as to what may be so personal. This was a weyr, and the vast majority of candidates lived communally, so there were few secrets to be had.

Kirranna saw the rider's look and sighed. "I know that I shouldn't worry about this but I," she paused realizing how ridiculous this sounded, "Have you ever had problems making friends?"

"Not really, no," replied the greenrider. But she did appreciate that some didn't find it so easy.

"I envy you then, becuase once I showed up here at the Weyr and wasn't taking care of the kids at Dolphin Hold any more I relized I didn't have really any friends that were my peers. Always I have only really gotten along with my elders or my juniors, never anyone my age." She gave a deep sigh, "I just don't know what to do about it."

"I mean I'm a pretty independent person but I'm not used to not having someone to look out for or who cares about me and respects me. I don't want to sound like a snob like I need power over some one or something, but I just like _feeling_ needed. I need someone who will actually come to me with their biggest secret and feel comfortable telling it to me, a friend and all my peers just seem to be giggling girls who have nothing better to do but gossip and stare at boys." she swipped a single tear that was trailing down her cheek. She hadn't let go like this in a while. It felt good. "I just don't know what to do. I don't want to fall to their level of superficial interaction, I want to _be_ something to someone."

"I can't get myself to talk to any of the boys yet either. I know I'm a flirt but I just can't get myself to say more then 'buzz-off' to them cuz I can't trust that they're willing to talk to me to be a friend or that it's because I have big breasts." She shook her head. "I just don't know."

"Sometimes you just have to take that chance," said Oria gently, after a moment. "No one expects you to make friends straight away, it will take time. Look to the people you spend time with, get to know them."

"That's just it though. I've never spent much time with anyone unless it was for chores or something." She sighed once more, "I guess you're right." She gave a weak smile to the rider.

"Talk to them as you work, you might be surprised."

"Alright." She gave the green rider a generous hug. "Thanks, I needed someone to talk to, and you're probably right. Thanks again." She scratched the dragon's eyeridges once again and started back to the dinning cavern where she was late to scrub the floors.

Oria was a little puzzled by the girl's actions, but then she supposed that everyone was new once.
