Kirra plopped her haversack on to the bunk she had been assigned. She was glad to see that most of the other candidate's bunks had little to nothing of personal items on them. She opened her haversack and pulled out the few belongings that were in it.

She gazed at her two extra tunics. One was an extra working tunic but the other was a dress tunic. Kirranna had no idea when she would be able to wear it but her mother had given it to her as a going away gift and Kirra absolutely adored it. It was off-white, Kirra smiled, her motherhad tried to avoid the fact that she had made it with a simi-revealing neck line. The long sleeves that bloomed out at the wrist were Kirra's favorite part.

Sighing she put those aside and pulled out the tools her father had given her. He knew, like everyone who lived near a weyr that the riders had to make and repair their own harnesses and so he had given Kirra a few of the most basic utensils for working the leather. She remembered that she had smiled and said that she wouldn't know if she was to be a Rider until after the eggs had hatched and he had just shrugged it off.

Outside she heard a male candidate talking to what sounded like other girl candidates. There were a few muffled good byes and then in came two giggling teenage girls. Once they noticed she was standing there watching them they got quiet and went to what was probably one of their bunks and whispered and giggled, looking at her every once in a while.

Kirra rolled her eyes. She was going to have a hard time having to deal only with her peers. She could go and visit Dolphin Hall but she wasn't going to be able to watch over her little brothers and sisters.

They weren't her real sibblings but she had been their protector from tormentors for most of their lives and now she wasn't there. She hoped somebody would be able to keep there eyes on them.

Her mother had been quite to the point when this issue had come up after Kirra had been asked to come train as a candidate for a possible life with a dragon:
"Kirra you know that those children aren't gonna _die_ if you are gone. They need to learn how to take care of _themselves_. _You_ need to grow up as well and understand that you can't be their mother forever, that you need to have your _own_ life!"

Kirranna knew she was right. So she had come, she had been dreaming of living in a weyr for so long that when the chance had arisen she had been thrown into the reality of it. It had always been a dream butleaving her loved ones and friends hadn't been part of it.

She sighed again, shaking her head. she hoped she did get a lifemate so that all of her time away wouldn't have been for nothing. Looking around she saw a few of the other candidates come in. She noticed one boy had looked at her longer than the other ones did. Well let him look, she thought. He's not gonna get to do much more than that.

Kirranna plopped up onto her bunk and laid there. Hopefully she could rest before dinner.
