Description: Eron and Pierka meet and share a tender moment
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 6, day 9 of Turn 6
E'ron sat by the lake, legs, crossed, his riding straps spread out
across his lap. He lifted it, bit by bit and looked at each section,
one after the other. The straps weren't really old enough to have much
wear, but if there was one thing drummed into him as a weyrling, it
was care, care, care for your straps!
He grabbed up some oil on a rag in one hand and started rubbing it
along the wherhide slowly, letting the oil sink in to nourish the
leather.
Pierka was humming as she and Liddith came down to the lake for her
bath. Her young green had complained of some dry patches and from her
lessons she knew that was bad if they were going to learn /between/
soon. She was determined to keep her sweet lifemate safe.
She didn't even see the bluerider as Liddith bounded ahead of her and
into the water. The day was sunny and beautiful and the temperature
perfect so she'd worn one of her swimming tops from when she was at
Dolphin Hall and a pair of shorts.
She ran laughing after he halfgrown green. Stopping only to drop her
bucket on the shore she dove into the water, short blond locks flying.
One minute, E'ron was alone and dry, the next he heard a splash and
sprinkles of water sprayed from the hind legs of a green dragon and
scattered all over him like a brief rain shower. He sighed and shook
the droplets from his hands. Luckily only a few had fallen on his
straps. He watched them dry, imagining for a moment that they were
Thread, burrowing, worming...
He shook his head and looked up.a weyrling, what was her name? He
couldn't remember.
{:Liddith's rider:} Feykenth supplied helpfully. That didn't jog
E'ron's memory as to the rider's name. She looked so carefree and
happy, he couldn't help but watch and smile, just a little.
}:We splashed him, we splashed him:{ Liddith's 'voice' was colored
with musical amusement.
**Splashed who?** Pierka was surprised. She hadn't seen anyone there
when she dove into the water. She squirmed around and rose to the
surface. Her head flipped around as she treaded water.
}:Feykenth's:{ That didn't help her much. Her head had been so buried
in her classes that she didn't know most of the wingriders.
"Sorry about that! I didn't see you," she called. "I'm Pierka and my
green troublemaker is Liddith."
E'ron raised his hand in greeting.
"E'ron, Feykenth's rider." He called back briefly. Shards, the water
did look good! He set aside his straps and rose to his feet but no
further. After all, she might not welcome another swimmer sharing her
time with her dragon.
}:Liddith is cute:{ Feykenth offered. E'rom blushed.
"I don't want to get you more wet or I'd shake your hand," she grinned
while she treaded water. "You should come in. The water's great!"
He hesitated and then shrugged to himself. Where was the harm in a
swim? He kicked off his unlaced boots and waded in. Hissing, he called
back, "It's sharding cold!"
She giggled. "Oh it's not _that_ cold." She shook her head at him.
"It's not bathing water if that's what you were expecting. But it's
wonderful during the summer when it's so hot."
Her giggling made him smile and the water was nicely soothing on his muscles.
"Is so!" he retorted, although he was becoming accustomed to it.
"How's things?" lame, but he had to say something!
"Good," she smiled in a friendly way. "We're taking our first trip
/between/ soon." She was both excited and scared by the prospect.
"Ohhhh, /between/!" He grinned. "Have you been before?" he remembered
being petrified the first time. And the second. And the third... Now
he barely gave it any thought.
"No," she said. "I came here by boat and was at the Dolphin Hall for a
while before I came to the Weyr." She'd heard stories of course so she
thought she knew what to expect.
It would be irresponsible of him to scare her. He wouldn't be able to
live with himself if he said something silly and she and her dragon
were lost because of it. He waved a hand in the air in a dismissive
gesture.
"It's as easy as eating a piece of bubbly pie!" He said, "but not as tasty!"
Pierka giggled. "Lucky I like bubbly pies."
He grinned. "So, weyrbred, holdbred? Hall?"
"Actually craft bred, or so they think. I was found in a shipwreck but
I don't remember."
He hadn't expected that. "How old were you?" his brow creased as he
concentrated on listening to her response.
"About 13 turns, they weren't really sure. But all the ones on the
ship who looked like they could be family were dead." She shrugged.
After her impression Liddith had provided all the love she needed and
she knew she'd never be alone again.
His eyebrows rose. "You have had some adventures. How are you
adjusting to being a dragonrider?"
"I love it," she said simply. "Liddith is all I could every ask for in
a lifemate."
E'ron nodded and looked down at the water, watching the ripples move
across its surface. "You ever worry about... You know, mating
flights?" he asked softly. He did and was thankful Feykenth wasn't
green. He got a flash of agreement, sent from his pale blue friend and
exhaled softly.
She wanted to blush. It wasn't as if she hadn't thought about it at
least and she _was_ curious about all the attention it seemed to get.
But she didn't really feel comfortable talking about the whole thing.
"Yeah," she said softly. "But from what they figure I'm about 15 turns
so I have a little time yet, even though Liddith isn't really ready
yet." She knew the other candidates chattered about what they were
going to do when the ban was released but she knew things for her
probably wouldn't change all that much.
"How about you? Has Feykenth won any flights yet?"
He blushed, bright red. "No!" he hissed, responding vehemently, with
his voice pitched soft but higher than he planned. "I've never
even...you know...with anyone!" He turned his face a little, hoping
she'd think the water in his eyes had been splashed there.
"Me either," she said softly and then turned dove under the water to
try and diffuse the sudden awkwardness. It wasn't something she talked
about even with Daishii, especially with Daishii.
E'ron was the biggest tool on the face of the planet, any planet. At
least that's how he felt as he turned back and watched her go under
the water. He'd been wallowing so long in his self-pity, frustrated at
his own confusion about his sexuality and his lack of experience that
he hadn't even considered it might be so much more confusing for a
greenrider. He could take his time to sort himself out. But her...when
her dragon was ready, she'd have to be ready to. And if she wasn't,
it'd be too bad.
}:Liddith, my rider said to tell your rider he's sorry for only
thinking of himself. He didn't mean to upset and embarrass you.:{
E'ron waited for her to resurface.
The message came along with a flush of reassurance from her lifemate.
}:His is sorry mine:{
**ok** she thought and rose again to the surface. Treading water she
turned to face him her chin half submerged in the water. "I'm sorry
too, I didn't realize." she murmured. "They told us it would be hard
to handle if we didn't do something about it." She was embarrassed
that she'd assumed he knew more of it than she did. "I just can't."
She didn't quite know what more to say, especially to someone who was
pretty much a stranger.
He nodded. "I get it. I don't even know who I'm supposed to do it
with. They all seem to assume that because I impressed blue, I
automatically know what and who I want. But I don't." He could never
say any of this to anyone else. But then, no one had listened. "I'm
sorry, I guess I just needed to get this off my chest."
She didn't even what to contemplate the other members of her weyrling
class as potential partners. None of them were even friendly with her
beyond the level of a classmat. There was no one that she was
particularly interested in either. "I know what you mean, so don't
worry. I understand, believe me."
He nodded. "One day we'll look back and wonder what we were worried
about. I hope... I know you don't know me very well, but if you ever
want to talk again..."
Her serious eyes surveyed him as an idea formed. "Thanks, I will," she
said. "You too," she nodded. He was rather nice looking and not like
one of those boys always looking to grab the girls. "I wonder..." She
didn't' know if she was brave enough to spit it out. "Would you want
to kiss me?" Her eyes widened at her own temerity. "I mean just so
we'd know what it's like."
That took him by surprise. He had kissed before, but never a girl. It
was certainly not an unpleasant prospect; she was pretty. More
importantly, she was sweet and seemed genuine. Not the kind to chase
men around and toy with them. He took a deep breath and a step closer
to her. Slowly and gently, he pressed his lips to hers, just lightly,
giving her every chance to move away if she wanted to.
She was a little stunned that he took her up on it so quickly but then
he was gentle and her eyes closed while the feeling almost overwhelmed
her. It certainly left flutters somewhere in her middle.
"Oh," was all she could think to say when the kiss was over. Then she
blushed and fingers brushed her lips as they curved softly. "That was
nice," she said leaning back slightly
Nice? Yes, he supposed that word fit. "It was." he agreed. Only now he
wanted to do it again, but it wasn't going to pressure her. Instead,
he reached out his hand and took hold of her fingers and gave them a
gentle squeeze.
As first kisses go, it was rather sweet and chaste but Pierka felt it
down to her toes. Her eyes focused on his lips and she leaned forward
again hoping to taste another.
He was only too happy to oblige, but took his time this time. The only
problem was, the more he kissed her, the more he didn't want to stop.
The second one was even better and she let go of his hand to curve her
arms up his back in an instinctive reaction. This time she even helped
as he kissed her breathless. "Oh my," she murmured against his lips.
Slowly and with great reluctance he pulled his face away from hers.
The last thing he wanted was for her to do anything she'd regret
later. If he were to be lucky enough to have her choose him as her
first, it shouldn't be on impulse on one meeting. "Do you want to,
um.. Eat dinner together later?" It sounded awkward and he blushed. "I
mean tonight or, or whenever..."
She wanted to look at her feet but she didn't. "Um, yes," she smiled
softly. "I'd like that." Her arms slid down his back. She realized she
didn't want to step away, it just felt so good.
Almost as a reflection of her own mood she saw Liddith preening for
Feykenth. Her eyes twinkled. "I'd like that quite alot actually."
"Great! So I'll um...pick you up from your weyr at the 18th candle
mark hour?" He looked at her hopefully.
"Yes," she nodded. "I'll be ready." Pierka felt as if she was floating
in a blissful fog as she started walking backward away from him. "I'll
be ready." She tried to keep her feet on the ground when she turned
and walked back toward her weyr but she couldn't help humming.
