Meledei noted the dragonrider in the hall - one she hadn't seen in some
time. Of course, she and E'ron had been weyrlings together, but since
graduation, they hadn't spent that much time together. Funny how some
people remained together and some just drifted apart. "Hello E'ron."
She greeted with a small smile. "Haven't seen you in a while."

That wasn't surprising given that E'ron had done his best to avoid
everyone as much as he could for as long as he could.

}:You should try to be more friendly:{ Feykenth stated helpfully.

**You my head-healer now?** E'ron's tone was tolerantly amused.

"Yeah. I s'pose it has..."

"How are you?" Meledei had known about E'ron's feelings for F'gol, but
that hadn't bothered her. What bothered her was what F'gol had done
with someone else - behind her back.

He shrugged. "I'm fine, you?" The whole F'gol thing left him on edge.
Maybe that was as much the cause of his withdrawal, as much as others
withdrawing from him when he impressed blue. He'd been such an idiot
and no doubt she knew all about it. Maybe even laughed about it.

"Doing well thanks." Meledei bobbed her head in a polite gesture and
studied him a moment. "You sure? I don't...I haven't seen you around
much."

"Yeah, well why would you?" the words were out of his mouth before the
registered in his brain. He frowned at his own rashness.

Meledei's head tilted to the side. She hadn't expected _that_ sort of
a response. "Not sure, E'ron." Her own voice was a bit more gentle.
"Why would I? I don't hide...but I haven't seen you much. You just
sort of...disappeared."

"I haven't gone anywhere. I've been right here." He pointed to the
ground. "Maybe you just haven't noticed."

"Maybe I haven't." Meledei nodded. "Though I don't exactly keep to
myself." She managed a small smile. "How's Feykenth doing?
Everything going all right with drills and such?"

E'ron couldn't handle the niceties any longer. "Why don't you just
laugh and get it over with! Tell me I was an idiot, a fool,
whatever...!" His face had turned an unattractive pink.

That threw Meledei off guard and she reached up to rub the back of her
neck. "E'ron, why would I do that?" Her brow furrowed and her mouth
puckered. He wasn't making any sense."

He stared at her for a long moment. Was she playing dumb or did she
seriously not know? No, she _had_ to know! "F'gol! The whole..." He
shook his head. "The whole thing." To him his words were clear enough!

"You mean about the fact that you liked him?" Meledei's voice was soft
and there wasn't the slightest hint of sarcasm. If anything, there was
sympathy within that tone.

"That and the rest." E'ron spoke through gritted teeth. "The bit where
I wasn't good enough for _him_! Surely he told you all about it."
Surely everyone knew!

"No. He didn't tell me anything. And frankly, evidently _I_ am not
good enough for _him_." Meledei pointed out, the frown upon her face
deepening. "Remember, he ran around on me."

That gave E'ron pause. "He...what? No he didn't. Well, not with me
anyway. He didn't mention it, really?" That would teach him to keep his
mouth shut!

"No, he didn't." Meledei shook her head. "And frankly, would you
really have wanted him to choose you when you knew he was in a
relationship with me and it would have been done without my knowledge
or consent?" Meledei honestly didn't think E'ron had anything to be
angry about. E'ron _knew_ F'gol had been in a relationship with her.
Why was he so upset? It didn't make sense.

He frowned. "Sometimes we act without thinking." Honestly, he hadn't
given her a moment's thought at the time. "I guess I owe you an
apology..."

Meledei knew about acting without thinking. It wasn't just the lack of
thinking on F'gol's part but the fact that she didn't see any remorse -
except that he got caught. "Don't worry about it." She stated.
Things were awkward enough drudging up recent hurts. She didn't want
to make it worse.

"Sure, I'll just carry on like I never p'eed a goldrider off," he
retorted. "How about I make it up to you somehow...?"

He didn't sound quite like he wanted to make it up to her, but Meledei
really didn't want to get into a row. "Nah, like I said, just don't
worry about it." Feally, Meledei just wanted to move on to other
topics. "Let's just drop it."

"Drop what?" E'ron replied. "Consider it forgotten," if only it were
that simple. "So um... Were you on your way to eat?" He always was, it
seemed. He was so often hungry!

"I suppose I should get some dinner." Meledei had honestly been on her
way to check on some things - but truthfully, they weren't dire.
"You?"

"I could eat. Do you think you would mind being seen with a humble
bluerider?" His smile was genuine.

"Come now, I don't mind being seen with most people." Most. But no,
they needed to get off that subject and Meledei didn't really want to
be in a bad mood. "Come on, let's go feed our stomachs."
