Cosani

Cosani

E'ron swing lowered his pack to the ground and started to fasten the
flying straps to Feykenth. The pale blue dragon would _not_stand
still. He was shifting from left to right, swinging his tail, his
head...

}:I'm so excited! I love to explore and swim! Maybe we'll find some
dolphins to swim with!:{

E'ron laughed as his lifemate continued his monologue. **All right,
but can you please stand still for more than a second!**

}:Sorry! I'm just excited!:{ Feykenth stood still for two breaths
before resuming his fidgeting.

}:We are coming,:{ Shalith announced to the blue. Cosani had gotten up
a bit earlier than she usually did on a restday, and she already had
some meatrolls and water packed.

}:They're coming!:{ Stopping to listen gave his rider the chance to
finish fastening his straps before he resumed his restless dance.

E'ron climbed up, strapped himself in and waited.

Shalith made a graceful landing, showing off for the blue. "Ready?"
Cosani asked.

E'ron grinned. "If we don't go now, I'm going to get seasick! Lead the way."

**Follow that green!**

Cosani chuckled at his fidgeting dragon and told Shalith to take off.
They rose high over the Weyr and Shalith sent Feykenth the visual of
the farthest spot south she and her rider had gone too. After cold,
breathless seconds /between/, they were over a huge expanse of jungle.

}:My rider says yours can pick what direction to go,:{ Shalith said.

E'ron glanced around. Beach, beach, beach... Uh-ha! He pointed toward
what looked like a cave in the distance. **Tell Shallith we go that
way!**

The green pair followed the blue. Cosani looked down at the trees
streaming by beneath them, enjoying the sight, even if it was a little
dizzying. She looked up again to see they were heading toward what
looked like a hill, although it was hard to tell under all the
vegetation.

Feykenth landed on the sand and promptly sunk until his feet all but
disappeared. }:It's nice and warm! Come snuggle up and sunbathe with
me, pretty Shallith!:{

E'ron rolled his eyes and slid off his blue. The flight straps
followed, just in time for Feykenth to slump down and burrow into the
sand with his whole body.

Shalith waited patiently while her rider removed her straps, then the
green folded her wings and curled neatly half a length away from
Feykenth. She was playing coy, but she was just trying to get
attention.

Cosani shielded her eyes. "Is that a cave over there?"

Feykenth wriggled over closer to her, looking a bit like a giant sand
snake. E'ron shook his head and turned his attention to Cosani. "It
sure looks like one. Shall we?"

"Sure." She dropped her pack at the edge of the trees, hoping the
dragons wouldn't roll on them while they were gone. As they got closer
it became clear that it was a cave, but there was no way to tell how
big or how deep. The mouth of it wasn't too large, but that didn't
indicate the size of the cave itself. "Did you bring glows?"

He wiggled his eyebrows. "We can't explore without them!" he swung the
pack off his back, untied the top and stuck his arm inside while
balancing the pack on an upraised knee. "it's in here somewhere... Oh,
here it is." He pulled a small glow out and put the pack down beside
hers. "Ladies first?"

Cosani snorted. They tried to make a lady out of her at the hold, when
they weren't busy treating her like wherry dung. "I don't see any
ladies here. You have the glows, so you go first."

"Just remember, you said it, not me," he said, then ducked into the
cave before she could retaliate.

The entrance to the cave opened up to a wider area, the walls and
ceiling just visible in the glowlight. "Looks like it goes back
farther." She pointed into the darkness at the back of the cave.

He raised the glow and something scuttled out of its light. "Yep. Back
and full of creepy crawlies." he said happily.

"Do you think there are big ones in here?" She asked a little
hopefully. Her voice echoed off the cave walls as they made their way
deeper.

"What, creepy crawlies? I hope so!" he grinned, knowing that wasn't
what she meant.

"Too bad the light scares them. Maybe we'll get lucky and some of them
will stay still so we can have a good look." She watched the edges of
the glow light. So far there wasn't much, and nothing big yet.

He laughed when he realised that she had been referring the the creepy
crawlies. The sound echoed through the cave, sounding considerably
louder than he'd expected. It was followed by another scuttle as
something ran from the sound. "Oops!"

"Quiet," she whispered. "Let's go deeper." It got cooler as they went,
almost chilly.

"Yes ma'am," he whispered. "Look, there's a tunnel off tithe side.
Wanna go that way?"

"Sure." Water dripped somewhere far away. "Do you think there might be
a stream somewhere down there?"

"There could be. Maybe a bathing pool. Let's find out." he walk
forward slowly, noticing the ceiling becoming gradually higher as they
went.

She laughed softly, trying not to scare the crawlies. "A bathing pool?
It would be awful cold down there."

"Yeah, but imagine a cold bath in the middle of winter!"

"Thank Faranth Dragonsfall had heated bathing pools," she said with a
little shiver.

"Yeah, winter would get pretty smelly if it didn't!"

The passageway grew wider. "I suppose it would. I like living here
much better, even with the hurricanes and stuff."

"Me too. A hurricane is a good excuse to stay in bed. Hey look, a
stalactite!" he pointed.

She looked up. "And it's a big one, too." Cosani wondered if there
were bigger ones deeper down.

Just as E'ron walked under it, a big drop of water splashed onto his
face. "Pugh!" he wiped it off with the back of his hand. "Shards that
was cold!" the further they went, the more damp the floor got.

She laughed and covered her mouth, still trying not to scare the
crawlies. "How far down do you think we should go?"

He shrugged, which was barely visible in the glow light. "I don't know
know, how far do you want to.. Oh wow!" He stepped out of a tunnel
into a cavern with a massive lake in the centre of it. It was so big
the light didn't reach the far shore.

"Wow," Cosani echoed. She moved close to the edge of the shore. "I
wonder if there's fish in there."

"I dare you to wade in and find out," he chuckled softly. Even the
soft sound carried out across the water.

She snorted. "You're the one who wanted to take a bath."

He crouched and put his hand in the water. "It's surprisingly warm, you try it."

She gave him a bit of a skeptical look, but she tested the water with
a few fingers. "Huh. It is."

"It might be the same as the water we get in the Weyr. From the same
place. Feel like a swim?"

She considered it: the pitch dark except for their feeble glow light,
not knowing how deep the lake was, or if there were hidden currents.
"I'd rather keep looking for crawlies." That seemed safer _and_ more
interesting.

"Well this is a dead end. We'll need to turn around and look down that
other tunnel."

"Okay. Let's go."
