Show Me Yours and I'll Show You Mine

Writers: Jelena, Mirren
Date Posted: 10th March 2012

Characters: E'ron, Naton
Description: E'ron and Naton meet and decide on exchanging favours, a dragon ride for a meeting with the dolphins.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 7, day 5 of Turn 6

After two months at his new home in the Dolphin Hall, Naton had no
hesitations about visiting the Weyr anymore. At first he had been
amazed by the hospitality and the friendly conversations he got from
the inhabitants of Dolphin Cove Weyr, but he had soon grown accustomed
to it and came to love his little trips to the Hall's neighbours. He
didn't need a reason to visit anymore, either, sometimes he just went
there for a chat with a random stranger. He knew almost everyone at
the Hall by now, but as he loved to meet new people, the Weyr was a
great place to go. So, on one of his visits, he sat down his tray at
an empty spot in the dining hall and smiled at the rider next to him.
"Greetings, Rider, do you mind if I sit here?"

E'ron has been lost in thought and didn't hear the man speak at first.
Awareness tugged at his mind until he realised he'd been spoken to. He
looked over to the man, embarrassed. "Oh, I'm sorry! Go ahead."

"Thanks," Naton smiled as he sat down. "I'm Naton, Senior Journeyman
from the Dolphin Hall." Looking at his food, he grinned a happy grin.
"Man, I'm hungry."

"Dolphin Hall? Really?" E'ron was immediately interested. He'd had
every chance to go and visit the hall but he never had. "I've never
met a dolphin before!"

"You haven't?" Naton asked curiously, before taking a bit and chewing
it quickly. He held his fork in the air as a sign he was going to say
something and after he swallowed, he continued. "And we're so close!
You definitely should come visit."

"Yeah, I should," E'ron admitted. "But looking after Feykenth takes so
much time. I get down to washing his tail and his head is dirty
again!" he grinned, showing he wasn't being literal.

"Well, that's solved easily enough." Naton said cheerfully after
munching down another bite of his meatroll. "You can come wash
Feykenth at a beach near the Hall. The dolphins always love swimming
with dragons.

"I've heard that but I was never quite sure how true it was." Even in
a Weyr it was best to believe half of what you heard!

"It's true. If you'd like, I could introduce you to some of the
dolphins. It's always a guess who comes out to play, but they're all
really fun."

E'ron's eyes lit up. "I'd like that! What if none come though? Would I
scare them away?"

"I have never seen a dragon bathe near our hall without any dolphins
paying a visit," Naton said with a smile. "Then again, I have only
been here two months myself. But dolphins really do love dragons, so
you should be just fine."

"Two months? Where did you come from?" the blue rider asked as he bit
into a piece of tuber.

"All the way from the North," Naton said with a smile. "It was a good
move, though, I've already grown quite fond of this place."

"I'll bet. It's warmer here too. Just wait for summer!"

"Oh, I can't wait for that," Naton said, his grin growing wide. "I was
born for warmth, so this climate is just right for me!" He paused for
a moment as he swallowed down a particularly large piece of tuber. "A
lot better for swimming, too, as you can imagine. I bet it's better up
in the air as well. I wouldn't want to fly over those snow-capped
mountains if I were a rider!"

"When you're on the back of a dragon you don't care where you are!"
E'ron grinned. "Hot, cold, snow. Besides, Feykenth keeps me warm."

"I bet!" Naton grinned. "I feel that way when I'm in the water with
the dolphins. But I can still appreciate the warmth when I do get it."

"Have you ever ridden on a dragon?" E'ron figured he probably had, but
he was always looking for an excuse to ride and taking someone up into
the sky was as good an excuse as any.

Naton shook his head. "No, I haven't. I was offered a ride a few
times, though, but I haven't found a good reason yet."

"You need a good reason?" E'ron was surprised. He'd have thought
anyone would jump at the chance! "How about Feykenth and I take you up
and then you can show us some dolphins?"

"Well, I wouldn't want to be a bother," Naton said, "I am sure you
dragonriders have more important thing to do than taking silly
dolphineers out for rides." However, E'ron's proposal had him sitting
up straight. "That seems like a fair deal, though."

"Maybe," E'ron shrugged. "But as you say, it's a good deal. When can you go?"

"Well, I don't suppose you've got a free afternoon right now?" Naton
asked, figuring it was worth asking at least.

"As a matter of fact, I do", actually he had straps to oil but they
could wait until tonight. "Don't eat too much though. The first time
up on a dragon can be...nerve racking!"

Naton had just brought another bite of a tuber to his mouth, but he
lowered the fork hesitantly. "There is no reason to go between, is
there? My first dragonride will be enough excitement for a day, I am
sure."

E'ron chuckled. "No, we won't if you don't want to. Feykenth will be a
perfect gentleman!"

"I hope so!" Naton said with a slightly embarrassed grin. "I would
think myself slightly irreverent if I dumped my lunch all over your
magnificent beast."

"I don't think he'd like that too much either." E'ron finished his
meal and sat back, happy to wait for the dolphineer.

"I can see why," Naton grinned, before quickly finishing his lunch.
"Ready when you are!"
