Moving Out

Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 7, day 24 of Turn 6
Notes: Mentioned: Janani, Meledei

Once again, the Headwoman had the unpleasant task of clearing out the Weyrwoman's weyr. She felt like screaming, but she controlled herself. Janani had taken her personal things with her, but things like tapestries and furniture and everything else would be removed. For now, it would remain empty until the next gold rose and they had a real Senior Weyrwoman again.

"Calla, take what you can carry down to the first storeroom please." She was grateful for the drudge's help. He didn't ask questions, mainlybecause he didn't understand. Right now, Qorri didn't want to answer any questions. She had so much to do.

Calla just nodded obediently and picked up a rolled tapestry. He didn't know why they were emptying this weyr and didn't care either.

She got down on her knees and kept putting things into boxes. Everything that she packed she looked at. They had given her so much, seen to her comfort. She had left them just like Traelyn. Qorri felt her heart harden just a little bit more toward goldriders. She knew they weren't all bad. She loved Meledei and would do whatever she could for her. Still, it just seemed like...well she was frustrated with the situation always coming back to this.

When she had another few boxes full, she grabbed some carisaks herself and followed Calla down. "How has your day been so far, Calla?" she asked, making small conversation.

"Go-good," Calla replied. As far as he was considered, day was good when no one yelled at him or picked him. He dropped the tapestry roll to join many others in the storage. The resulting thud made a cloud of dust to rose to the air and he sneezed.

"Did you eat lunch?" Sometimes he forgot so Qorri always asked. It would be a bit before they would be done here, but as they walked back to gather more things, she considered eating after.

Calla actually had to think about it and his forehead wrinkled up with the effort. Finally he shook his head. No, the last thing he ate had been breakfast.

"Alright we'll eat when we get done." As she saw it, between the two of them they had about five more trips. When they came back to the weyr, she picked up as much as she could carry. Always the custodian of the ones that left or who were lost, Qorri sometimes got tired of the chore.

Calla nodded and picked up the next item, a large crate filled with this and that. He wasn't much for a conversation but there was something very restful in his unassuming presence. His listened without comment or criticism.

When the weyr was empty, she stepped back out of it and took one last look. "Well Calla, here's hoping the next person that lives here stays here." She put her dusty hands on her skirts for a moment, then turned around and started walking.

Calla just shrugged, and trotted after her like an obedient canine.
