Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 7, day 10 of Turn 6
Pierka made one last round of her weyr. Tonight she and E'ron were
going to hang out at her place. They'd taken walks and washed their
dragons together and spent some time getting to know one another.
She'd brought dinner up and it was hot under the serving covers. So
all she had to do now was wait.
She went out to where Liddith dozed in her couch. Still a bit smaller
than most greens her age she was showing herself to be fast and agile.
Pierka leaned against her lifemate for a little bit of reassurance.
She really liked E'ron, he never made her afraid and she really liked
the other feelings he was arousing in her. Liddith seemed to take it
all in stride so she was reassured.
E'ron was running late. He'd been at drills and the sharded wing
leader had kept them back because one green rider had dropped their
firestone sack while still in the air. So he'd had a quick bath and
changed into a pair of dark blue trousers and a pale blue shirt. His
hair was damp and one hastily tied boot was coming undone, but he got
to Pierka's door at last! He took a deep breath and then knocked
gently.
Pierka smiled and gave Liddith one last scritch on her eyeridge. Then
she pushed off to go answer her door. "Hey," she welcomed E'ron with a
smile. Then she stepped back and invited him in. "Dinner is on the
table," she said and closed the door once he was inside.
"Mmm, it smells good! Or maybe that's you?" He grinned while leaning
forward to sniff. "It's both". He kissed her cheek and then pulled his
hand out from where he had it hidden behind his back. "I brought you
something." It was a small box and inside the small box were some
dainty sweets he'd picked out and bought for her.
"Ohhh thank you," she smiled. Then she stood up on tiptoe and held on
to his shoulders to kiss his cheek in thanks. Pierka couldn't remember
the last time she'd received a present. Not even at the hatching when
so many of the candidates parents and siblings had brought things for
their recently Impressed. She almost didn't want to open it just
because the little box was so pretty and precious to her.
Pulling the bright tie she opened it to find another box inside.
"Ohhh," she said and grinned up at E'ron. She placed the outside box
on the table and opened it up. "It's wonderful," she said and put it
down on the table. "We'll taste them after dinner."
He smiled. "I'm glad you like them. I wasn't sure what to get." He'd
really have liked to give her flowers or jewellery but he didn't know
what kind to get. "So, what's for dinner?" He was ravenous as usual.
"Well the cook made her special roast today. So we have roast wherry
with spiced gravy and all the trimmings." She grinned while she
whisked the covers from their plates. Steam rose off the hot food
along with the wonderful aroma.
He sniffed the air. "Mmmm, that smells ridiculously good." His stomach
chose then to rumble loudly and he grinned. "I think my stomach
agrees!" Looking at the plates, it looked good too. Good enough to
eat!
Pierka was especially looking forward to the mashed tubers with lots
of butter and gravy. Laughing she pulled out her chair to have a seat.
"We'll then let's fill that empty space."
Had E'ron been older and experienced he might have caught on to the
potential innuendo. As it was he just grinned and sat down. "Sounds
like a good idea to me!" He started on the meat first, having a couple
of mouthfuls before asking, "How's things"
"Great," she said. "We flamed today and didn't get hurt!" She'd been
careful to make sure she bathed to get rid of the stink long before
she fetched their trays of food.
"Well that's a big plus," he grinned. "What did Liddith think of it? I
remember Feykenth wondering what the big deal was," he laughed.
"She enjoyed it apparently," Pierka laughed. "The first one was only a
small ball of flame but she got the hang of it and produced a decent
throw by the end." She made a face and waved her hand in front of her
nose. "Boy does it stink though."
He laughed. "That is does! You don't notice when you fight thread
though. You just get on with it. You do notice afterward of course. It
sounds like she did well, I wish I'd been there to see it." He meant
it.
Pierka smiled at his sincerity. She was rather amazed at how close
they'd become. E'ron was one of her best friends now and she couldn't
imagine a day without at least seeing him to catch up. Liddith
likewise thought the his blue Feykenth was quite a handsome companion.
Most of all E'ron was just easy to be around. Then she had a thought
and blurted it out before she could think it through.
"I really like you E'ron. We're such good friends and all now. Would
you be my first?" Her eyes popped open and a hand flew to her mouth
like it might be possible to keep the words from falling out. But it
was already too late.
He had a fork half way to his mouth, which was open to receive the
food. He froze. The chunk of meat fell off the fork unnoticed. He sat
staring until he realised his mouth was still open and snapped it
shut. "I..." he blushed "Of course!" he said finally. "If you'll be
mine?"
Pierka could feel her own face flame as he stared for a moment. For
that moment she thought she'd ruined everything. Until he spoke then
she perked up. "Oh yes!"
There was an awkward silence while E'ron tried to think of something
else to say. Finally, "Do you want to finish eating first?" He could
have kicked himself. What a stupid thing to ask! It occurred to him
that maybe she hadn't meant tonight at all. Maybe not even this
sevenday. Or this turn. Or...!
She looked at her plate and the tubers and gravy. "Yeah," she said "We
can finish eating first." She shrugged. "I mean, we don't _have_ to do
it right away if you'd rather..."
He frowned. It didn't feel right to be talking about their first time
in quite such a clinical way. "Of course I want to! I just want it to
be right for you. I mean, if you're ready and you're sure, that's good
enough for me."
Her heart was fluttering in her chest and blood seemed to roar in her
ears. Her hand shook when she tried to bring the fork to her mouth so
she put it down. All she could think was that he wanted to. Someone
really wanted to be that close to her. She hadn't realized until that
minute how much it really meant to her. "I'm sure," she whispered. Her
smile kind of trembled so she picked up her glass with both hands to
get it to her mouth without spilling.
He was suddenly not so hungry. Not for food anyway. He could see her
trembling and hated to think of her being on edge or nervous. Putting
down his fork, he got to his feet and went around the table to her. He
crouched down next to her and gently took the glass from, her hands
and placed it back on the table. Then he took her hands in his and
stood, drawing her up with him.
She couldn't look into his eyes at first. She was both excited and
scared but she didn't resist and rose when he pulled her up. She could
still feel her fingers tremble in his warm hands.
He put his arms around her and pulled her close, wanting to comfort
and reassure her. She was so warm and smelled so good, it made his
heart beat faster. But he wanted to go slowly, to give her a chance to
change her mind.
First she laid her head against his chest just hanging on to him. She
could hear his heat pounding and realized she wasn't the only one who
was nervous. Feeling his arms around her helped calm her down a little
and finally she lifted her eyes to his. She smiled and stood on her
toes to try and give him a shy kiss.
He lowered his face to hers and kissed her. It was more chaste than
the first kiss they'd ever shared but that was deliberate. He wanted
them to take their time, make this a memorable night for them both. He
kissed her again, deeper this time.
The kiss seemed to hold a promise of so much more and she slipped her
arms up around his neck. She didn't want him to stop and her lips told
him so.
Who was he to argue? He only broke away long enough to take her hand
and lead her to her sleeping area, his stomach fluttering with nerves.
